I Suck At Pride

yesterday was quite the eventful day.

i suppose watching an entire family of geese walking through our backyard in the morning basically set the pace for how the day was to unfold. as it turns out, yesterday was the day of parades. if anyone knows me, i am not too fond of parades. i suppose you could say i suck at parades. i think the reason i am not too fond of parades is because i like to be actively doing something. (hence, i am not too fond of lying out on the beach either.)

anyway, in the morning karen and i met my friends (marc and kelley). we had plans to go into town to catch... a parade. the parade so happened to be the gay pride parade, also known as "pride". now, i suck at pride. i have never been to a gay pride parade. so, this was my first time. it was actually very interesting as far as parades go.

in the event you were wondering how the four of us ended up at a gay pride parade when none of us are gay, well... we went in support of marc's sister (de). de and her partner (carol) have been together for quite some time (yet only married for a brief time thanks to the legalization of gay marriage in massachusetts). in fact, we met up with them after the parade. we even got to meet their dog (gracie). for the record... trying to find a couple of lesbians after a gay pride parade... very difficult.

the parade itself was quite fun. the parade started off with a bunch of lesbians on motorcycles. from there, there were the usual parade marchers. there were even some men walking in speedos (they were representing some swimming thing). speaking of men, there were a ton of men dressed up as women. some of them even wore stiletto heels. i imagine marching through a parade with those heels must have been difficult.

for those men who were not cross-dressing... i was quite impressed. a lot of the shirtless gay men... very nice abs. it has been revealed to me after the fact that the gym is the gay man's church... who knew? based on seeing their well sculpted bodies, i would probably say that gay men go to church more often than straight men on both meanings of the word "church".

(pictured below is kelley and marc waiting for the parade to start.)

all in all, the gay pride parade was very interesting. the floats were blaring dance music (and apparently gay men also have rhythm) and the crowds were quite into the entire parade... clapping and dancing. the only disappointing thing about the gay pride parade was the politicians. mayor menino marched in the parade. interestingly enough, the governor (deval patrick) whose daughter came out did not march. there were a bunch of other politicians too, but for someone like me who is not into politics... i couldn't pick out which one was the politician.

needless to say, i had fun at the gay pride parade. as far as parades go, it was definitely interesting. karen even got a free t-shirt from one of the parade people. while kelley and i were attempting to get beads from a float (which we didn't because the float people threw the beads at nearby lesbians), some parade person was walking around with this t-shirt, saw karen, and put it over her head.

karen... loves the t-shirt.
