shortly after my terrible performance as a personal trainer, i received a call from my friend (marc) who i normally get together and hang out with on wednesdays.
marc told me that kelley was admitted to quincy medical center. fearing that kelley would tire of his company, he asked if karen and i would be able stop by the hospital for a little while. naturally, karen and i went to see our friends. (like i always say... always appreciate your family and friends... all right, maybe i don't always say that... at least usually not until christmas time...)
we met marc at his house and then walked on over to the quincy medical center. (marc and kelley live right across the street from the hospital.) in fact, kelley walked over to the hospital before getting admitted.
anyway, it turns out that kelley was craving a burger from wendy's yesterday. after they ate at wendy's, she started feeling discomfort. thinking nothing of it, kelley searched the internet for possible reasons for her discomfort. she took 6 tylenol pills... nothing. she had trouble sleeping. eventually, she decided to go to the emergency room. apparently, the staff already had an idea as to what the cause of her discomfort was. they took an ultrasound and discovered a gallstone.
i suck at gallstones. according to my friend wikipedia, "Researchers believe that gallstones may be caused by a combination of factors, including inherited body chemistry, body weight, gallbladder motility (movement), and perhaps diet."
from what i am told, kelley's gallstone is about an inch in diameter. that is huge. apparently, the stone has been around for some time. it just so happened to end up blocking the passageway yesterday. (fast food always gets you. just kidding.)
anyway, kelley is having surgery tomorrow to remove the gallstone. in what i consider to be somewhat interesting, is the fact that the doctors are going to attempt to go arthroscopically through her belly button to pulverize the gallstone. if that procedure does not work, then they will need to make an incision elsewhere to remove it. as well, she will be out an entire week to recover.
kelley was in relatively good spirits considering she was lacking sleep... and had a ginormous golf-ball sized gallstone. hopefully things will go well... all of us had joked that when the doctors poke a hole through her belly button, that kelley would deflate and fly around the room losing air like a balloon. joking aside, get well soon kell!
