last night, karen and i ran around doing some errands... and by errands i mean christmas shopping. unfortunately, karen and i are very behind in our christmas shopping. usually, we are done fairly early with our christmas shopping. this year, however, has been a strange year to say the least. christmas simply snuck up on us. i can't believe christmas is next week.
anyway, while we were out and about, we decided to go to the scarlet oak tavern located on queen anne's corner in hingham. too bad i suck at the scarlet oak tavern. neither karen nor i have been there in a while. karen's parents had recently gone and told us that they enjoyed the food there. as we had not been there ourselves in quite some time, we decided to go there.
it turns out... it still will be quite some time before we go to the scarlet oak tavern. last night, the place was absolutely packed. there was no parking available in the parking lot. the wait to be seated was over an hour. i was surprised because never would i have thought that the scarlet oak would be that busy on a thursday night. (this is normally where i would disparagingly shake my head and mutter "hingham" under my breath.) i am not sure if people were trying to get in a last meal before the big forecasted snowstorm or not.
needless to say, we did not dine at the scarlet oak tavern. instead, we decided to go to not your average joe's which is located just down the street in neighboring norwell. i'm actually happy that we ate there instead... after all, i love the food at not your average joe's.
based on the recommendation of our waitperson, i tried the not your average joe's chicken oscar... it was very delicious. (cue rachael ray's "yum-o" sound.) and for anyone curious, yes... my urine smelled funny afterwards. (the chicken oscar comes with asparagus.)
anyway, not your average joe's was great. for the heck of it, we decided to get ourselves a gift card for the restaurant. not your average joe's is running a promotion where for every $50 gift card you get, you also get a $10 gift card for purchasing it. in essense, it boils down to a free money. since karen and i frequently go there, we thought... why not? besides, it was like a little pre-birthday celebration for me. yay... not your average joe's!
