I Suck At Christo's

on saturday, karen and i visited karen's grandparents who live in hanover. in addition to just checking in on them, karen wanted to show her grandparents a video that my favorite sister-in-law (janine) discovered on youtube during the week. the video is basically about her cousin (doreen)... who would be another grandchild to her grandparents... singing a patsy cline tune known as "i go walking." (i have never heard of the tune up until i saw the video.)

(the video below is of doreen.)

maybe doreen should try out for the next american idol audition.

anyway, karen's grandparents soon asked if we wanted to go to lunch with them. with the recent inclement weather, they had not really left the house in some time. naturally, we agreed to go. the destination for lunch: christo's... home of the greek salad king... or so their tagline would have you believe.

now, i suck at christo's. my past experiences there have never been really stellar. as mean as this sounds, i would consider christo's a place where the elderly frequent... which with karen's grandparents wanting to go there... makes sense. i just never thought the food was all that great, even the greek salad. in addition, the commercials on tv for christo's used to annoy me because they had that "made in a basement" feel to them.

nonetheless, we went there for lunch. karen's grandparents love christo's. they go there quite frequently. in fact, when we got there, the waitperson immediately recognized karen's grandparents and started chatting with them. even mr. christo (or whatever his name may be) said hello to karen's grandparents. mr. christo called karen's grandfather... "charlie". karen's grandfather's name is not charlie. apparently, when karen's grandfather first met mr. christo, mr. christo thought his name was "charlie". karen's grandfather never corrected him... and so... he became known as charlie within the christo world.

karen's grandfather is a definite marvel. he is 96 years old and still has his mental acumen. i can't even remember yesterday and i'm a little over a third of his age. his stories are quite funny. in fact, both him and karen's grandmother have fascinating stories about the past. it was definitely great to have lunch with them.

and surprisingly, the food was not that bad at christo's. i had broiled haddock with roasted potatoes and squash... it was actually good. anyway, i had a great time with karen's grandparents. i don't remember the last time, if ever, that we had lunch with just them... but it was fun.
