today is my friend's (jen) birthday. too bad i suck at celebrating my friend's birthday. happy birthday jen!
i have known jen for quite some time... at least since high school. the story about how jen and karen became friends is quite interesting. jen and karen would arrive at school very early in the morning. as it turned out... on one fateful morning, jen's father was driving jen and her brother (bill) to school. as they were driving to school, jen's father happened to notice karen on her way to school. jen's father asked jen if karen went to the same school as jen. at the time, jen did not really know karen at all. needless to say, jen's father pulled the car over and offered karen a ride. i heard that the car ride to school that day was somewhat awkward. nonetheless, jen and karen have been friends ever since. (of course, this was all back in the day when taking rides from strangers was not like how it is today.)
anyway, one of my fondest memories of jen happens to be on her birthday. jen was going to florida for the weekend to celebrate her birthday with her family and she invited karen and myself to join her. we ended up staying at the portofino bay hotel in universal studios, orlando.
during the day, all of us enjoyed universal studios together. after all, what is there to not enjoy at universal studios... theme parks are always fun. (incidentally, it was the first time i got to ride the incredible hulk roller coaster with bill.) i don't know how many roller coaster rides i did that day. we saw the x-men characters... we saw spiderman in one of the shops... it was like a comic book nerd's dream come true. we even went to jimmy buffett's margaritaville for dinner with jen's family.
all in all, that was a great weekend... one filled with great memories. it is always fun to hang out with jen and just be silly.
