I Suck At Kerry's Holiday Party

saturday was quite the busy day. in addition to hanging out with my friend (aimee), karen and i attended my bff's (kerry) annual holiday party. too bad i suck at kerry's holiday party.

for quite some time now (i think maybe for the past six years), kerry has hosted an annual holiday party. she began hosting the annual holiday party when she lived in medford. go mustangs! please don't ask me how i know medford high is known as the mustangs, because the story involves my friend (carlos)... and cheerleaders.

anyway, kerry and her roommate at the time (jamie) would invite a bunch of friends over to celebrate the holidays. historically, jamie and his friends would hang out together in one area of the apartment (like the kitchen), while kerry's friends would hang out in another area of the apartment... and never the two shall meet... well, they would hardly cross over to intermingle.

for me, the hang out area of choice was kerry's bedroom. sure, it sounds odd... hanging out in kerry's bedroom, but there were a lot of good memories in her bedroom... all during her holiday parties of course.

one of the fondest memories i have is attempting to open a bottle of beer in her closet... and i don't mean me standing in her closet opening a bottle of beer. i mean... using the striker plate of the closet to open the bottle of beer. (the striker plate is what the door knob comes in contact with to actually keep the door closed.) the idea came about because my friend (jen) said that she learned how to open a bottle of beer via the closet striking plate. needless to say, i figured i'd give it a try as well. unfortunately, the results were not too good. i got beer everywhere in her closet.

another memory of kerry's bedroom during the holiday party involved jamie's friend (horatio). at the time, kerry kept all of her numbers from the road races that she ran. in fact, she placed all of the numbers above her bed. well, horatio entered kerry's bedroom on one unsuspecting holiday party and noticed a bunch of us on kerry's bed. he then noticed the collection of numbers above the bed and asked what the numbers meant. well, in our bout of silliness, we told horatio that the numbers were the number of conquests that kerry has "notched" above the bed. (for anyone curious, the numbers that are usually given out at road races generally tend to be in the hundreds.) i think horatio got a chuckle out of it. i am hoping he did not really believe all of us.

needless to say, this year kerry made her bedroom off limits. her new apartment in salem is large enough that guests can hang out anywhere but the bedroom now. it was a good time. my friends (carlos and andrea), karen and i went this year to kerry's holiday party.

(pictured below are carlos, karen and andrea on kerry's new couch.)

although i did not really talk much with kerry's usual friends from rhode island, i got to meet her firefighting friend (rick) and her cousin (melissa). i hung out with them more because... well... we shared something in common... none of us were part of the rhode island crew. and like i tend to joke... nothing good comes from rhode island except the family guy...

i am just kidding about rhode island. don't get me wrong. kerry's rhode island friends are nice. but like anything, people generally tend to do things that they are familiar with because it provides a level of comfort. so it only makes sense that her friends from rhode island would congregate with one another... much like how in a high school reunion people would tend to hang out with people who they hung out in high school.

regardless, i had a fun time with rick and melissa... and melissa's boyfriend (pat) who apparently has been hired by carlos to manage carlos's dream bar: cocktails and dreams. yes, i think there may have been a little inebriation during this holiday party. (i think carlos may have passed out on the car ride home.) and as a holiday party bonus, the food was good as usual. kerry is quite the baker. (granted, i did not eat any of her baked goods at the party, but i do know that a lot of people raved about her cookies.) i stuck to the dish of scallops wrapped in bacon... so good.
