I Suck At Fringe

tonight, karen and i hung out with my friends (marc and kelley). lately, it seems like we have been getting together on days other than the usual prince spaghetti day of wednesday. i always look forward to our get togethers because it generally breaks the week up and gives me a brief escape from reality for a while. after all, we get to watch the greatest show ever: buffy the vampire slayer!

normally, when i post about hanging out with marc and kelley during the weekday, i title the post "i suck at buffy the vampire slayer" regardless of whatever else happened that night. tonight, however, i decided to change things up. tonight, i suck at fringe.

for anyone curious, fringe is a new show this season on fox. it centers around an fbi agent who must work with a mad scientist... literally (the scientist was institutionalized) to uncover "the pattern". the scientist, by the way, is an authority on "fringe" science... which according to his son, played by joshua jackson (of dawson's creek and the mighty ducks fame), is not even a science.

my bff (kerry) would probably be excited to know that karen and i started watching fringe. it's surprising that kerry even likes the show. fringe is not really her favorite genre. she prefers more drama... a la dawson's creek (and apparently gilmore girls since she thought of an actress of that show to play my friend, aimee). but since kerry is a big fan of joshua jackson, she decided to watch the show... and now likes the show very much (thanks to pacey!). maybe now, she will start to watch "lost" as well... which is another j.j. abrams show.

j.j. abrams, in my opinion, is definitely one of the better current writer/producers (and composers) out there. i would say prior to "lost", his biggest breakthrough was "alias" with jennifer garner. (he also did "felicity"... which was a show kerry enjoyed as well. in fact, keri russell, the star of felicity, was a viable option to play kerry in the movie once... but i stuck with my main casting pick of julia stiles.)

(the video below is a promotional trailer for fringe.)

anyway, the four of us watched fringe last night and we enjoyed it. although i must say, joshua jackson plays the same type of character... he must be type-casted... probably much the same way vince vaughn plays himself in every movie. regardless, it was a good episode. i am definitely looking forward to more episodes this season.

in addition to fringe, we also watched some more episodes of the greatest show ever: buffy the vampire slayer! (we actually decided to take a little break from heroes due to the awful plotlines this season.) buffy the vampire slayer is a joss whedon creation... who is another one of the better writer/producers currently out there.

we were able to watch three episodes from season 2: "innocence", which is about the return of the evil vampire... angelus; "phases", which is about werewolves and oz, and "bewitched, bothered, and bewildered", which is about a love spell gone awry for xander. we only have six more episodes to go until the end of the season. so apparently, we are moving right along.

among the episodes last night, "bewitched, bothered, and bewildered" is the episode i liked the best... probably because i would have loved to have all the women want me when i was in high school. (in high school, i played the "hard to want" card... despite my infectious giggle. it's amazing that my charm ever worked on karen.)

all in all, it was a good night with marc and kelley. as an added bonus, my friend (scott) called while we were there. interestingly enough, scott always seems to call or be in the neighborhood whenever we are at marc and kelley's. it's funny because it almost seems like scott has tagged us with a tracking device. just kidding.

also as another added bonus, marc gave me the latest issue of rolling stone magazine, which featured on the cover... britney spears. yes, i read it for the articles. my friend (aimee) once gave me a sticker card of britney spears. i have no idea where aimee got that sticker from, but i kept the sticker of britney spears in my wallet for good luck. apparently... britney spears in my wallet... not so lucky... as evident from my recent turn of events. (and britney even has a song called "lucky"... i beg to differ.)

anyway, i have since gotten rid of the sticker of britney spears in my wallet. i guess that's good because i probably would have seemed like a dirty old man for carrying around a picture of britney spears in my wallet. so maybe i'll replace the sticker now with the rolling stone magazine cover and claim "oops!... i did it again". just kidding.

lol, i got that sticker from one of those quarter machines at the supermarket....my sister and i were trying to get ones of nsync, if i remember correctly. and i totally gave it to you as a joke! i didn't seriously think you'd still be carrying it in your wallet years later.
