after having lunch at the scarlet oak tavern today, i did what any normal person would do to celebrate a wedding anniversary... mow the lawn. yes, very romantic...
in my defense, karen suggested that i mow the lawn. our lawn has been so overgrown that it has been a complete eyesore. regardless, it may have been the food coma speaking when karen suggested i mow the lawn.
when the lawn was finally mowed, karen and i watched a movie (the devil wears prada). we thought it would be a cute movie and i'll admit... it was good. as we were still full from lunch after the lawn mowing and the movie, we decided to watch yet another movie (save the last dance). for anyone curious, we had gotten those two movies specifically for today. you can probably tell which one i chose.
there's a story behind "save the last dance". it looked so awful when it first came out in the theaters... with it's "slammin'" commercial... that my friends (marc and kelley) used to make fun of it all the time whenever we were there. in fact, we started using the term "slammin'" after that movie. naturally, i had to watch it, and what better time to watch it than on my wedding anniversary? well, even though the movie critics gave it two thumbs up... i thought it was bad. i suppose i should not expect much from a movie about a white girl trying to dance. i probably would have had a more enjoyable time watching my rhythmatically challenged friend (hot amy) bust a move instead.
needless to say, we started getting hungry after both movies. we decided to continue our anniversary celebration at not your average joes. i still suck at not your average joes. there was actually some rationale as to why we decided to go to not your average joes... that rationale being we went to not your average joes last year when we celebrated our four year anniversary at the cape.
as usual, the food at not your average joes is awesome. i had a cranberry glazed chicken dish with butternut squash and asparagus. it was very delicious. in fact, i can't wait till the next time i see my bff (kerry) so that we can go there again. (we'll probably go either there or the halfway cafe.)
