I Suck At Blueberry Picking

yesterday, my bff (kerry), karen and i got up bright and early.

kerry had spent the night at our house again after a torrid day of shopping at target and colony place.

normally, we probably wouldn't have gotten up bright and early. on our agenda though... was blueberry picking. now, i suck at blueberry picking. luckily, there is a place not too far from where i live that allows you to pick blueberries. the place is called tree-berry farm" and it is located on the norwell and scituate town border. as you can probably guess by the name, the farm specializes in trees (christmas trees) and berries (blueberries).

(pictured below are karen and kerry picking blueberries.)

i have come to find out that picking your own blueberries is quite the deal. the farm currently charges $2.60 per pound of blueberries. the local store charges about $3 per pint. based on karen's dietitic calculations:

1 pint of blueberries weighs ~ 290 grams;
there are 453 grams in a pound;
thus, it would cost ~ $4.50 - $4.60 per pound at the store.

needless to say, we got a good deal on blueberries. we ended up getting over 6 pounds of blueberries. when we were done, all three of us headed back to our place and enjoyed some blueberry pancakes. (karen also made blueberry muffins later in the day.)

i'm going to be so full of blueberries... i can't wait to see what color my poop will be. (i'm hoping it will be blue. but don't worry, i won't subject you to a blog posting about the color if it is.) oh yes, for anyone curious... according to the tree-berry farm website, blueberry season generally runs from early july through early september. peak season is late july through early august.

even though we still have a lot of blueberries left, i already want to go back to the farm and pick some more. i wonder if this is what anit-oxidants do to the body... make you crave more anti-oxidants. blueberries... the gateway drug. (cue rachael ray's "yum-o" sound.)
