for valentine's, karen and i decided to go out and have a movie date night. the movie: slumdog millionaire. now i suck at slumdog millionaire.
i had only heard buzz about the movie because it has been nominated for numerous awards. unfortunately, i knew nothing about the movie other than it was a bollywood type of movie... which... in all honesty did not exactly make me interested.
karen, on the other hand, knew a little more about the movie. she heard the movie was "the feel good movie of the year" and that it was a love story. so naturally, she wanted to see it.
(below is the trailer for slumdog millionaire.)
so, we decided to go watch the movie at loring hall located in hingham. i have never been to loring hall. loring hall, owned by patriot cinemas, is a one movie theater reminiscent of historic theaters. the hall is quaint with a balcony. the place is actually very well maintained. loring hall is a throwback to how movies used to be shown. so obviously, there are no stadium seats in loring hall.
needless to say, we took our seats in loring hall and watched the movie. truth be told, i was pleasantly surprised... which is actually an understatement. i absolutely loved the movie. with all the dull movies that hollywood has released lately, slumdog millionaire was definitely refreshing. i would definitely recommend this movie to anyone... that is how much i enjoyed it.
interestingly enough, the song "paper planes" by m.i.a. which became famous thanks to the movie pineapple express was also used in slumdog millionaire. the only reason i point that out is because i like that song. so it was just another reason to enjoy the movie.
all in all, slumdog millionaire was a great movie. i hope it continues to win numerous awards. watching the movie was a great way to end valentine's day.
