I Suck At Potluck

last night, my friends (cass and ellen) organized a little get together. in fact, cass and ellen wanted to have a potluck dinner. the theme for the potluck was: international.

unfortunately, i suck at potluck because i'm generally not adept at cooking food. as far as dinners go, however, i actually enjoy potluck dinners because the idea centers around two things that interest me very much: getting together with friends... and obviously food.

i'm happy cass and ellen organized the potluck. i sometimes feel like i don't see them enough... or for that matter, i don't see my friends (garv and leeann) all that often either.

needless to say, the food at the potluck was delicious. cass and ellen went with the chinese and irish theme... or as cass calls it: chirish... making a lettuce wrap dish and a corned beef dish. my friends (marc and kelley) went with the swedish and russian theme by making swedish meatballs and the alcoholic beverage known as the russian rose. karen and i went with the mediterranean theme of couscous and hummus and pita.

much to our surprise, garv and leeann did not bring wings. garv loves wings. of course, growing up he used to love pickles and steak-umms too. garv and leeann actually went with the mexican theme by bringing burritos courtesy of anna's taqueria.

all in all, the food was outstanding. kelley and i obviously imbibed on the russian rose. we finished the bottle of vodka in no time. for anyone curious, marc's balls... delicious... snicker snicker... this is where i usually insert the "that's what she said" line. but yes, all of the food was quite delicious.

hanging out with everyone was great too. we did some reminiscing about the past (including garv's passion for pickles and steak-umms). some of the things that were discussed included our middle school experience at camp wing where marc proved the true power of liquid heat... on genitalia; the thanksgiving dinner at garv's that was supposed to be only a few friends which turned into an entire packed house; and techmo bowl.

marc ranks the thanksgiving dinner at garv's as one of the better thanksgivings. my only memory from that thanksgiving dinner was my late friend (greg) cowering with fear because my other friend's (anna) manboyfriend at the time showed up looking for anna and threatened greg. as far as intimidation goes, the only thing intimidating about anna's manboyfriend was his mustache... and maybe the fact that he seemed like twice our age. good times good times.

so as to not bore everyone with stories from the past, we did also discuss other things... like my new found appreciation for all things new kids and my other tastes in music... and also cass's taste in music. anyway, it was a great time and i had a lot of fun.

cass subsequently wants to continue the potluck theme on a monthly basis. we're not sure yet as to what the theme will be the next time around... so we'll see.
