I Suck At Auctions

it's amazing what you can find on the internet in the wee hours of night/early morning (besides pornography).

i think i'm coming down with something. i woke up yesterday with a scratchy throat. it wasn't until tonight in which i started to get stuffy and have problems sleeping, which is why i'm writing this blog so early in the morning. i blame my friend (hot amy) who doused the dinner table with her sickly germs at the green dragon on the night of the new kids concert. hot amy is always sick... and now, she has made me sick... or at least, i'm going to blame her for it.

anyway, while i was surfing the internet, i came upon the news that maria sharapova (of tennis fame... for anyone who does not know who she is) was auctioned for charity. according to yahoo, the winning bid for a date with her was $10,000. sadly, her boyfriend was outbid for the date.

the only reason why i like this story so much (not that i am a big maria sharapova fan... although she is blonde and i do like shiny objects) is because i had always wanted to be part of an auction. perhaps i watched too much television growing up. i remember when i first saw that type of auction on a tv show i was watching, i thought "what an interesting concept". of course on tv, it always worked out that the guy would get the girl and all that.

i had once mentioned to karen a long while back about how cool it would be if we could auction our friends and ourselves for something. in particular, i always wondered how much i would fetch at an auction. sure, it was probably an ego boosting idea at the time... but i thought it would be fun. karen naturally thought the idea was crazy. or maybe... it was karen thought i was crazy...

granted, i know i won't fetch $10,000 like ms. sharapova. and this may be because it's the wee hours of night/early morning and i'm not thinking straight because i am sick... wouldn't it be cool to have an auction to raise money for a worthy cause now... like the neonatal intensive care unit that did all they could to help my son (braden) survive? and then... as i think about it... not only would the neonatal intensive care unit benefit... but all of my single friends who took part in the event could be bid on and get dates... and then if things were to work out according to tv, my single friends would end up happily ever after thanks to that plot device.

and, as it turns out... couples can do it too as evident from my shiny object (ms. sharapova) whose boyfriend was outbid. so i could do the auction... or even my friend (marc) who is the self-proclaimed handsomest guy out of all of my guy friends. yes... marc being the best looking guy friend came up in conversation. when we hang out, we talk about a lot of silly things. it's fun that way...

ah... the possibilities of an auction. i wonder how much i would get if i were auctioned... it's too bad i suck at auctions.
