I Suck At The Mad Dash

tonight, the ymca had a party to celebrate the mad dash. the mad dash is the ymca's version of the biggest loser. participants of the mad dash are judged on the following criteria: body composition; weight loss; and before/after pictures. whoever scores the highest on that criteria is the winner of the mad dash.

now, i suck at the mad dash. i attended the party to support my favorite sister-in-law (janine) and my friend (jen). by the way, the mad dash celebration party was held at the local library (the thomas crane public library). for anyone who hasn't been to the library, the thomas crane public library is very nice. the library has come a long way since the good o' days when the library cards had that metal plate that imprinted ink.

the mad dash party was held in the old room where the periodicals used to be. (the room has been renovated since the good o' days.) as well, the food was catered by eatin' healthy, which is a restaurant located in quincy. there was also desserts by konditor meister of braintree fame.

needless to say, the food was delicious. (cue rachael ray's yum-o sound.) i must have eaten so many quiche squares, avocado dips, and pieces of fruit. the chocolate konditor meister dessert was also very tasty.

anyway, i was hoping that janine would win one of the prizes. she has worked very hard (especially when participating in my bosu army) and she looks great. i'm sure she has lost some weight. i would never ask, of course. unfortunately, janine did not place in the mad dash. as it turns out, none of the hardcore women from hanover placed either... so it is possible that i beat the personal trainer known as tyson. well, even though janine did not place, she is still a winner in my book.

speaking of winning, jen managed to win something at the party. there was a raffle near the end of the party and her number was called. it turns out that she won a biking shirt, which should come in very handy when she goes spinning with her brother (bill) and janine.

(pictured below is jen with her new shirt. also in the background is one of hot amy and karen's former students/ymca intern, mary kate.)

all in all, the ymca did a great job for the mad dash party. the food was great. the live music was great. the presenters were great even though they shamelessly plugged the talbots stores. (one of the board of directors is affiliated with talbots.) and like i said, even though neither jen nor janine won the mad dash, they are both winners and should be commended. they did a marvelous job.

they'll win next year...

I Suck At Karaoke

today has been an eventful day. after working late hours again, i went to pick up karen at the ymca. karen was giving a presentation to kick off the ymca's "mad dash" event. (the "mad dash" is the ymca's version of "the biggest loser" where the person who loses the most percentage of body weight wins a prize.) basically, karen talks about how a sensible diet will help the participants lose weight for the "mad dash". as it turns out, my friend (jen) and my sister-in-law (janine) are participating in the mad dash competition. (pictured below are jen, janine and bill who attended karen's presentation.)

anyway, i hope jen and janine do well and achieve their workout goals (whatever that goal may be). interestingly enough, i also got to meet the new ymca intern (mary kate). apparently, mary kate is taking a class at... where else... simmons college. and guess who her teachers are... karen and hot amy. what a small world. too bad i didn't ask her who the better instructor was. that would have been interesting to find out... not that i am instigating anything.

after the ymca presentation, karen and i met up with a bunch of other friends at... where else... but hot amy's favorite hot spot of blue 22. my friend (kelley) got a new job and so we decided to celebrate the event. (kelley is a scientist.) it was nice to see my friends (cass, ellen, marc, kelley, and garv) again. i feel like i haven't seen all of them in awhile. as usual, we were placed in the corner of the bar. we seem to have a habit of being secluded whenever the group of us go out... probably because we could be embarrassing with our humor.

needless to say, tonight happened to be karaoke night. now, i suck at karaoke. i can't carry a tune for the life of me, which is pretty odd considering how much i love music. i guess you could say that singing to me is what dancing is to hot amy... love it, but can't do it. marc attempted to get me to do a duet with him (to the song "a little respect" by erasure), but i opted not to. we were, however, treated to a rendition of "if i had a million dollars" by garv. (pictured below is that rendition.)

anyway, all of us had a good time. it was fun.

d'oh! i just realized that today was supposed to be my weigh-in day. oh well. i guess i'll have to use another scale for this week's weigh-in as i won't be seeing marc and kelley for another week. i'll see how it goes. i'm curious what the results will be. maybe i should do the "mad dash".
