I Suck At Touch A Fire Truck

Saturday has been quite the busy day. Granted, I woke up late at 9:00 AM thanks in part to my non-sleeping newborn daughter (Bridget).

Anyway, the day began with a little visit to the public library, which only seems fitting since I am running to be on the Board of Trustees for the public library. Nevertheless, the public library was having a family event called "Touch A Fire Truck". Too bad I suck at Touch a Fire Truck.

For anyone curious, the name of the event says it all. The town's firefighters would be at the library, complete with an actual fire engine for kids (and adults) to see... and touch. The fire fighters provided little plastic fire helmets and balls to the children to play with. I wonder if my BFF (Kerry), who apparently seems to know all things firefighter related, knows the fire chief. Just kidding.

Needless to say, Karen and I ended up taking our two year old daughter (Briana) and Bridget to the event. We also ended up taking my nephew (PJ) to the event as well to give him a little break from going shopping with his sister and mother, which I'm sure is thrilling. Briana, incidentally, did not seem that into the event. She was more into the sugar cookie at the refreshment stand than the fire truck.

It was good hanging out with my nephew. We ended up taking him and our daughters to Chipotle too for lunch. It was the first time he had ever eaten at Chipotle and he appeared to enjoy it. For anyone curious, we ended up at the Chipotle at the Derby Shoppes in Hingham because there was a family event for Easter that we also wanted to attend. Yes, Saturday was family event day.

At the Derby Shoppes, Briana did a craft project involving making bunny ears. There was also an obstacle course, but Briana seemed more interested in... you guessed it... food. This time, it was the chocolate eggs that caught her fancy.

Anyway, with all the family events complete, my friends (Dolores and Tom) stopped on by for a visit. They wanted to do a little meet and greet with Bridget, which is commonplace these days. It was good to see Dolores and Loser Tom. I haven't seen them since our little excursion into Boston for the dietitian summit between Karen, Dolores, and my friend (Hot Amy). Dietitians Unite!

Among the topics that came up were the show "Once Upon a Time", playing Jenga with my chimney, and a Bobcat. Dolores and I share similar interests. Among them, besides "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", are other shows like "Once Upon a Time". As well, it turns out that we both also want to own Bobcats. And by Bobcats, I am not referring to the furry animal. I mean the company that creates construction equipment like a loader, excavator, etc. Of course, I have no idea where I would even store a Bobcat, but just owning one would be pretty cool in my book.

As for Jenga with my chimney, that topic came about because we were discussing with Loser Tom, who is a handyman on the side, how to remove a chimney. Our house used to have a chimney stack that ran straight through the middle of the house. When we renovated our house and added a second floor, the chimney was rendered inoperable. Instead of carrying the chimney through our second floor and consequently through the roof, we had the heat vented directly out the side of the house instead. Unfortunately, the bricks that made up the chimney remained on the existing first floor, enclosed behind a wall column. So, we were discussing with Loser Tom how to remove those bricks. Hence, Jenga with my chimney.

All in all, it was a pretty busy day. It was great to spend time with the family, and it was great to see friends.

I Suck At Chipotle

By the end of the week, I am usually brain-drained. Work has been mentally exhausting for what seems like centuries. The last thing I want to do is think about what to make for dinner especially when our eighteen month old daughter (Briana) stands in front of you, rubs her tummy, and says "Yummy yummy". So on Friday, Karen and I decided to go to Chipotle for dinner.

Yep, I suck at Chipotle. Slowly, it appears that Chipotle is making it into our round of local haunts which currently includes Not Your Average Joe's and Sal's Pizza. As a side note, Karen and I were reminiscing recently about how we used to go to Chili's a lot when we were young whipper-snappers. How things have changed.

Anyway, Friday was also the first time I got to drive Karen's car, the Subaru Forester. Since Karen picked up the car on Monday from Planet Subaru in Hanover, she has been the sole driver of the vehicle... until now. Driving her car took some getting used to, but it was nice.

I Suck At Chipotle Mexican Grill

With the nice weather on Friday, Karen and I decided to take our baby daughter (Briana) for a walk after work around the Derby Shoppes located in Hingham. Besides the healthy benefits of physical activity, the walk in the sun would provide some very much needed vitamin D. And for those who know Karen, they would know that vitamin D is very important. No rickets here!

And truth be told, vitamin D is more important for people with darker skin (like Asians) because their skin pigments reduce the capacity to make vitamin D from sunlight. (I suppose if you are pasty white, you're good for vitamin D.)

Needless to say, the brief walk around the Derby Shoppes was nice. For dinner, we ended up going to Chipotle Mexican Grill. Now I suck at Chipotle Mexican Grill.

This may sound strange, but it felt good to dine out. Instead of Chipotle, it could have been McDonald's and it probably would have felt good to me. For the past few weeks, Karen and I have not gone out to eat.

Instead, we have been making a lot of meals at home. The whole thing originated a few weeks ago when Karen wanted to plan out every day's dinner. Prior to the planning, the usual routine would be that Karen would come home from work and the both of us would decide on what we wanted to eat from what was available in the house.

Needless to say, with my nonchalant attitude, this routine proved to be a big time waster, which is not very helpful when you have to throw in taking care of a baby. So in an effort to be more efficient, we decided to plan our meals ahead of time.

Thus far, the planning of meals has been going well. For Karen, it's been really going well because she doesn't have to make the meals. By the time she gets home, her dinner is already waiting for her, which allows her more time to play with Briana. For me, I get to enjoy the thrills of cooking. I'm not very good at cooking (which probably is not so good for Karen since she has to eat the results of my cooking), but at least I enjoy it.

Anyway, going to Chipotle on Friday was a nice break. As an added bonus, the chicken burrito with guacamole at Chipotle was delicious. So it all worked out.

I Suck At Chipotle

Last night, Karen and I attended a service for our friend's (Kristine) grandfather. It was an interesting service. The service was held at Dolan Funeral Services in Quincy. I have never been to Dolan Funeral Services. Surprisingly, the place is pretty big. Of course, the place may have just seemed large because there were not a lot of people attending the service.

Anyway, following the service, Karen and I decided to go out. Originally, we thought about eating out at a fancy restaurant. After all, both Karen and I were already dressed up. As it turns out, we decided to grab take out from Chipotle instead.

Too bad I suck at Chipotle. Truth be told, I was a little disappointed with this past Chipotle experience. Generally, my experiences at Chipotle are pretty positive. Last night, however, was not that great.

Karen and I had ordered the featured burrito: the chicken burrito. Unfortunately, Chipotle had run out of chicken. As Chipotle likes to pride themselves on serving things hot and fresh, they started to cook the chicken for us. Normally, that's great.

The problem, however, was that they continued creating the rest of the burrito. If the rest of the burrito contained cold items, then it probably would not have been bad. Unfortunately, there are some other warm items in the burrito beside the meat (like the beans). So needless to say, while waiting for the chicken to cook, the rest of the burrito got cold. (And one would think that we would get chicken hot off the grill... except that for some reason the staff continued creating the burritos for the other customers after us... and then later added the chicken to ours.)

Luckily for Chipotle, I was pretty hungry and didn't mind that my burrito was pretty much cold. Karen, however, was quite disappointed.

Anyway, we took our cold burritos to my favorite sister-in-law's (Janine). Janine had asked if we wanted to stop on by. And so we did. It was fun hanging out with Janine and my favorite brother-in-law (PJ).

Truth be told, after Thursday's stress I think it cheered Karen up to hang out and have fun with her sister. (And for anyone curious, Janine now has Coach sunglasses. Yes, she is so Hingham.) It was fun. Karen and I used to see Janine and PJ fairly regularly. We haven't really seen them on a consistent basis in a while. Perhaps we should do it again.

Among the topics of discussion were... the infamous speculum. Janine has never seen one... until last night. Hm. I should add that to my scavenger hunt list that I'm creating. Speaking of which, it seems like Janine and PJ are fairly confident that they will win again at the upcoming photo scavenger hunt. They have already earmarked their winnings to be used for a round of drinks. I guess we'll see.

I Suck At Car Accidents

Last night was an interesting night.

In an effort to do some holiday shopping, Karen and I went to the Derby Shoppes located in Hingham. Unfortunately for me, I still do not have any ideas yet on what to get Karen for Christmas. As the days get closer to Christmas, I may have to resort to my old fallback plan of "the big box of nothing".

Karen and I had a good time at the Derby Shoppes. Before our shopping spree, we grabbed a quick dinner at the Chipotle Mexican Grill, which had recently opened last week (Wednesday). Karen had never been to Chipotle's, so it was a new experience for her. For anyone curious, the burritos are delicious there. (Cue Rachael Ray's "Yum-O" sound.)

Following our quick trip to the Derby Shoppes, we headed home. As we were driving down route 53 (south), we noticed a police car blocking the street near the intersection to our house, which is near the Stop and Shop. As well, there was a police officer directing traffic. And by directing traffic, I mean the police officer was signaling for the cars to turn around.

As we approached the police officer and explained that we lived just on the other side of his vehicle, he told us to loop around to the other side of route 53 using the back roads. Naturally, like any good law-biding citizen, I turned the car around and looped around to the other side of route 53.

On the other side of route 53, we then encountered a similar set up. Another police car was blocking traffic and another police officer was directing cars to turn around. Intrigued, we explained to the officer that the other officer directed us to drive around to enter the street that leads to our house.

Since the police officer was from the neighboring town, he then suggest that we loop around the back of Stop and Shop and try that way. Being from another town, the police officer was not familiar with the streets of Norwell.

Lo and behold, the police officer's suggestion worked! We cut through the back of Stop and Shop and made it to the intersection leading to our house. Apparently, near the intersection was a car accident.

Now, I suck at car accidents. Unfortunately, this accident looked pretty serious. Last night, Karen and I were only able to make out a shopping cart lying on the road, with another vehicle pulled over to the side.

It turns out, someone was struck by a car. According to the Boston Globe, a 64 year old woman from Norwell was killed as she pushed a shopping cart across route 53. The driver was a 76 year old man from Scituate.

That's very sad.

I Suck At Chipotle Mexican Grill

it's true. i have no life. rather than partying on a friday night, i'm at home... writing this post. some might say that i suck at having a life... which right now i would agree. i was actually hoping that my bff (kerry) would come down for a little veronica mars visit tonight. unfortunately, due to the inclement weather, she was unable to visit. bummer.

so, i'm pretty much at home tonight... twiddling my thumbs. for anyone curious, karen is trying her hand at baking a chocolate pecan pie for tomorrow. the pie sounds yummy.

anyway, tonight i had my first experience at the chipotle mexican grill. yes, i suck at chipotle mexican grill. i guess you can say i was a chipotle virgin. and my first time was with a burrito... it sounds so kinky, i know.

i always heard about the chipotle mexican grill. i just never went there. so when the chipotle opened in quincy, i was quite curious as to trying out the food. lo and behold, tonight presented the perfect opportunity for me to go... (again, since i have no life...)

after visiting karen's grandmother (nana) in the nursing home, karen and i went to karen's parents to drop off the laundry. by laundry, i am not referring to karen or my laundry... because that would be odd. i was referring to karen's grandmother's laundry. karen's mother does her laundry since nana is in the nursing home.

so, we were going to drop off nana's laundry with karen's parents in quincy. needless to say, i was getting pretty hungry on the ride there. we decided to stop off at chipotle to grab a quick bite to eat.

i must say, the food was good. the parking at chipotle is bad... but the food was good. i ordered a steak burrito... filled with rice... black beans... corn chili salsa... and guacamole. for anyone curious, guacamole costs extra. it apparently was a good night because i was not charged for the guacamole... to which i say "thanks little b!"... even though i'm sure my son (braden aka little b) would agree with me that daddy doesn't need the heaping spoonful of extra calories.

needless to say, the burrito was a good size. the burrito was messy... but quite filling. i was pleasantly surprised. and as of yet, i have not felt any ill effects from eating the large portion of mexican food... which is always good. so yes, i would go back to chipotle again. the food was good.
