Last night was quite the eventful night. In fact, it was pretty much a family night as everything revolved around our family.
After work, Karen and I made a brief stop at Babies 'R Us to update our registry. To be more specific, we looked into car seats, baby carriages, and strollers. Eventually, we made a decision. Like I had mentioned to Karen, with the passing of our son (Braden), we are probably going to be those parents who will be constantly over-protecting our next child. The baby (who this week is named "Cabby" after Chinese cabbage) will most likely be wrapped up from head to toe in cushy padding... twice... to never get hurt.
From there (and after another brief stop at Staples to recycle some electronic waste... go environment!), we headed off to South Shore Hospital. For dinner, we were meeting up with Karen's parents at the hospital. Karen's mother was pretty comical. She seems quite giddy with excitement over Cabby and our baby registry and all of that. (And yes, the hospital food at South Shore Hospital is pretty good. I had a cheeseburger. Yum!)
Sure, the hospital cafetaria is no swanky dining establishment, but it was convenient. After all, the reason why we were meeting up with Karen's parents was because we were visiting some family members who happened to be in the hospital. Interestingly enough, the two separate family members were on the same floor, directly across from each other. It was interesting. Plus, the visit was apparently very quick as one patient was tired, and the other already had company. It was probably one of the quickest visits I have been to at a hospital... for two people.
Anyway, the patients are doing well. Following the hospital, Karen and I then headed off to see my favorite sister-in-law (Janine). Janine and my favorite brother-in-law (PJ) were giving us their bassinet and crib. So we stopped on by to pick up the items. Luckily for us, Janine's BFF (Gretchen) happened to be there because the bassinet and crib were in the attic... and PJ was not home yet.
Apparently, Janine is afraid to go up into the attic for hear of falling through the ceiling. I actually think they have a nice attic. Their attic is a lot more comfortable than our attic. Plus, there's more headroom. But I can see why she'd dislike going into the attic. The attic stairs are not exactly that secure.
Regardless, with the help of Janine and Gretchen, we were able to retrieve the bassinet and crib from the attic. And for anyone curious, I actually did not know what a bassinet looked like. I've heard the term before. And I've heard Karen and Janine always refer to it many times. And interestingly enough, I have actually seen one before. I just never made the association that the thing I have seen is called a "bassinet". To me, I always thought it was a little crib... but I guess bassinet sounded phonetically better than little crib.
Anyway, after hanging out at Janine and PJ's, Karen and I eventually headed home where I began to assemble the aforementioned bassinet and crib. And I must say, I suck at setting up a bassinet. Setting up the crib was no problem. A few screws here... a few screws there... and voila! Crib. The bassinet was a whole different story.
The bassinet actually did not require any screws, which is the sad part. Instead, it assembles with buttons and fitted pieces. Assembling the base was the easy part. It was actually the bassinet portion itself that took forever. Karen and I must have spent a good amount of time trying to figure out how the skirt attached to the basket. Not even the directions could help us out.
Eventually, we did figure it out. Apparently, the bottom board had to actually sit into the skirt piece before snapping up all of the buttons. The directions never mentioned anything about that. The whole assembly of the bassinet definitely took us longer than it should have. But at least it's done.
So now at least we have some baby furniture in Cabby's/My BFF's (Kerry) room.

I Still Suck At Registering
Saturday was a very uneventful day.
The highlight of the day was our visit to Target in Pembroke. Surprisingly, the visit took quite a while. In an effort to give friends and family more options, Karen and I also registered for baby products at Target.
Now, I still suck registering. In my opinion, creating a baby registry through Target was better than creating a registry at Babies 'R Us. I think the reason for my preference of Target (aside from Target being just a cool place to shop) is the free schwag we received from creating the registry.
When we registered at Babies 'R Us, Karen and I only received a little book with items that they sold and a checklist of what we should register for. That's it. From what I remember from our registry experience for our son (Braden), who passed away without the need of the registry items, we actually received other things from Babies 'R Us like coupons and whatnot. Nope, not this time.
In comparison, Target provided us with a little tote bag, a book of what they sold, a book with recommendations, coupons, a gift card for shutterfly, and a diaper. There was definitely more stuff. I'm all about the schwag.

I Suck At Registering
Last night, Karen and I finally created a baby registry for our unborn child known as Hottie. Not to be confused with my friend (Hot Amy), Hottie is derived from week 26 of pregnancy where the baby is the length of a cucumber... and not just any cucumber... an English hothouse cucumber. Truth be told, I don't even know what an English hothouse cucumber looks like, but I thought Hottie had a good ring to it.
Anyway, I suck at registering. For me, I was very hesitant to create a baby registry. The last time Karen and I created a baby registry was the week before our son (Braden) was prematurely born. Unfortunately, Braden only survived a week after he was born.
Needless to say, that thought always remained in the back of my head during this current pregnancy. So I may have been dragging my feet in regards to creating another registry. But now at least, Karen and I have created a registry and added a small number of items for Hottie.
For anyone curious, we are currently registered at Babies 'R Us. The registry number is 44950876. Based on the registry suggestions from Babies 'R Us, we still have a bunch of items to add. You would think that creating a registry would be easier the second time around. Sadly, most of the items that we had registered for Braden are now gone. I guess a lot changes in two years, especially since last year was basically a blur to me.
Well, at least we've made some progress and created the registry. That's cause for a celebration of sorts. So it only made sense that we went to Not Your Average Joe's located in Norwell for dinner. Interestingly enough, Karen and I had the same meal that we had the previous week. (Cue Rachael Ray's "Yum-O" sound.)
It was Monday after all and on Mondays and Tuesdays, Not Your Average Joe's has 10 entrees for $10 each. Some day we will meet up with my BFF (Kerry) for dinner. Needless to say, the meal was delicious. It was a good way to end the night.

I Suck At Registering
as yesterday was labor day, i found it fitting that i should do some... laboring.
so, karen and i (during my little break from working on the house), decided to register for baby stuff at our second store to give our friends options... should they want to get us things for the minion, baby bruce... the little dragon.
now, i suck at registering. karen and i decided to go to target for our second baby registry (registry id: 014217300000034).
as it turns out, target... is more like a winnie the pooh registry. it seemed like everything that we had registered for at target was somehow a winnie the pooh related item. i sure hope the little dragon likes winnie the pooh. if not, i'm sure karen wouldn't mind using the items for our bedroom.
anyway, i am having fun with this registering thing. i always thought it was a little odd asking people to buy stuff for us. i felt the same way for the wedding registry. i do realize that these important life events are quite expensive for a single couple to do on their own... and i do appreciate everyone for all of their help. so before i forget... thank you in advance.
if target or babies 'r us sold cars, i'd scan a toyota prius... baby needs a new car. just kidding. actually, now that my friend (hot amy) drives a prius... i'm afraid i'll have to find a new dream car. i don't want to be a copycat... even though i wanted the prius way before she ever did. but i guess it's a good thing you can't scan a prius... i think i just like playing around with the scanner and shooting bar codes... as lame as that sounds.
needless to say, our baby registry still needs some work. karen and i only managed to scan a few things... there's only so much time in a given day... but at least we now have two registries for everyone.

I Suck At Registering
following the celebration of nana's 86th birthday on saturday, karen and i figured we'd start registering for baby stuff.
in case you are curious, i suck at registering.
who knew there would be so many things required for babies? i am so going to be that awful dad who knows nothing about raising a child. i can't wait to change my first diaper.
anyway, karen has been doing some research on baby products. she bought a consumer reports book about baby products and has been reading it quite religiously of late. i, on the other hand... not so much with the reading. although, in my defense, i have been working on the house and getting the baby's room done (right now, the project involves molding around the windows).
so needless to say, i felt ill prepared when we decided to go registering for baby stuff this past saturday. lucky for me, however, we had a secret weapon... my favorite sister-in-law (janine).
i must say... i love creating a baby registry with janine. not only do i get good advice from a mother of two... i get to indulge and zap crazy things with the baby registry scanner that the store gives you. there was this product (a nursery center) that had a thing for an ipod... which i thought was cool. based on that ipod functionality alone, i wanted to add the item to the registry. of course, karen... being the more practical one... wanted to check everything else first to make sure the product was one of the consumer reports better products. in the end, and with the help of janine... the item made the registry. thanks janine!
anyway, we didn't finish registering for items. there was just too many things to look at. but, at least we started. yay! oh, for anyone curious... we registered at babies 'r us. the registry number is 94809004. we were also planning on registering at target too, to give people options. hopefully janine can accompany us on the target excursion as well...
