With it being Tuesday and all, my friends (Marc and Kelley) came over. Karen and I, along with Marc, Kelley, and my friend (Andrea) had been getting together on Tuesdays to watch Lost. With Lost having ended for good, we decided to continue where we had left on during our viewing of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Now, I suck at Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It just so happens that we only had a couple of episodes to watch to close out season 6 of Buffy. So, the episodes we watched were "Two to Go" whereby Dark Willow tracks down the remaining members of the Trio who were responsible for the death of her beloved; and "Grave", the season finale where Dark Willow tries to destroy the world.
For a while, our baby daughter (Briana) appeared to be all into Buffy as she intently watched the show with us. (I have to get her into Buffy while she's young after all. She could be a little slayer!) But after a while, she started to fuss... and poop... numerous times. Luckily for me, I've seen the Buffy episodes many times so changing her diapers weren't a problem.
Apparently, it turns out that Karen thought the end of the season with Willow and Xander to be touching. I suppose I would have to agree. After all, if I were hellbent on destroying the world, it would be nice to have your BFF (Kerry) try to stop you by telling you everything is okay. So take a mental note of that, Kerry. Just kidding.
Now, I'm not one to say that Buffy is gospel or anything. Watching the episodes now, however, does provide a different perspective on things. Having lost our son (Braden) a while back, I too felt like it was the end of the world when he passed away. After all, for all intents and purposes Braden's passing made no sense. To this day, I doubt Karen and I will ever have a reason as to why he had to pass away. And naturally without answers or order, there is chaos... and that is definitely how things felt back then. So I can see how things were different this time around when watching the finale of Buffy season 6.
And luckily, Karen and I did have a huge support system of family and friends. It was very comforting for Karen and I to know that so many people cared about us. We will be forever grateful for that. Regardless, it was nice to watch the season 6 finale again of Buffy with friends.

I Suck At Lost
Last night, Karen and I hung out with our friends (Marc, Kelley, and Andrea). On the agenda for the night: the next episode of Lost. Unfortunately, I suck at Lost.
While the four of us waited for Andrea, we decided to watch the next episode of television's greatest show: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The episode that we watched was "Villains", whereby Willow invokes dark magic to get revenge on Warren for the death of Tara. Nothing starts off a good night like watching Warren's flesh rip off his body.
Speaking of geeks, Andrea arrived in time for our discussion about Jay Baruchel. Jay Baruchel stars in the upcoming movie "She's Out of My League", about some guy who starts dating a woman... out of his league (played by Alice Eve). The commercial for the movie came on while all of us were eating takeout from the Little Duck, located in Quincy. (I had the pad thai... delicious!)
Anyway, I thought the movie was definitely pure Hollywood because a geek would never end up dating someone out of their league unless it were pure Hollywood... or the geek were rich... or possibly the geek were a musician. After all, how many fanboys do you see walking around with models on their arms? I'm guessing not many. (It's much like the same premise of the Big Bang Theory television show.) Of course, I could be mistaken. After all, "nerd chic" is gaining momentum these days.
Oh, it turns out... I learned a new fact yesterday about Andrea. Apparently Andrea likes men with accents... preferably from Europe... or Texas. If she were to encounter a geek with an accent, I have no idea what would happen. My guess is that the geek would simply walk away due socially awkward skills.
And if things weren't non-sequitor as it is in this post, Kelly Ripa weighed anywhere from 92 to 108 pounds. Apparently in a September 15th, 2008 episode of her show she weighed in at 92 pounds. Since then, she weighed herself on David Letterman, coming in at 108 and apparently currently maintains a weight from 100 to 110 pounds. Yes, that is a very random fact... thanks to Google.
The five of us had wondered that fact after Kelley poked fun at how I commented on Kelly Ripa's defined arms. And yes, for someone of her size and stature, Kelly Ripa does have nice defined arms. (As well, Kelly Ripa will be 40 this year come October 2.)
Aside from the random discussions during out Thai takeout dinner, the latest episode of Lost was good. Of course, there are still no answers to the show, but it's still grossly entertaining. Although, viewers expecting to see Sawyer will be disappointed because he does not appear in the episode.
All in all, it was a great night hanging out with everyone.

I Suck At Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Yesterday, Karen and I hung out with my friends (Marc and Kelley). For me, the day practically flew by.
I started off the day with an eye exam. I was not looking to get new glasses or anything like that. It just happened to be over a year since my last eye exam. And it was also the case that some time last week, my eye doctor's office called to remind me of that fact and scheduled the appointment.
Needless to say, the eye exam was good. No changes. My eye doctor does not foresee any changes for me until I'm about 42 or so. Apparently around 42, people start needing reading glasses. And as an interesting note, I found out that lasik will not correct the need for reading glasses. (I figured that lasik corrected everything... but I was mistaken.)
Following the exam, I returned home; did some renovating in our first floor bathroom (ie. installed some insulation); picked up Karen from work; attended her ultrasound appointment (to which I still think our baby is going to be a girl because... like in a dramatic fashion, the baby had its hand propped up in front of its face); and then before I knew it, it was time to head over to Marc and Kelley's to hang out.
In case anyone is curious, Karen is doing fine with the pregnancy. And in case you are extra curious about the baby's name for the week, it is Ruty... as in rutabaga.
(Right now, I am envisioning that scene in the movie about Daniel Ruettiger... played by Sean Astin... where the team is chanting his name on the football field. Yes, the movie is "Rudy".) Ruty! Ruty! Ruty!
Anyway, on the agenda for the night at Marc and Kelley's were more episodes of the greatest television show ever: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Now I suck at Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The episodes that we watched were: "Hell's Bells" about Xander and Anya's wedding... which was called off (because Xander was a dope); "Normal Again" about Buffy being in a mental hospital and that the past six years were a figment of her imagination; "Entropy" about Anya's revenge on Xander for leaving her at the altar; and "Seeing Red" which brings about the end of Tara.
We had watched all four of the episodes on the disc while having dinner and dessert. Marc was gracious enough to make moussaka which was very delicious. Equally yummy were the cookies that Kelley made. (Cue Rachael Ray's "Yum-O" sound.) Needless to say, it was a very enjoyable meal.
I had a great time. Too bad the whole day flew by so quickly.

I Suck At Green Lantern: First Flight
On Wednesday, Karen and I hung out with my friends (Marc and Kelley).
Marc had prepared a delicious Asian dish for all of us. As well, Kelley made her famous muffins. (Cue Rachael Ray's "Yum-O" sound.) I love Kelley's muffins. They taste so good. One of the benefits of being married to Karen (and I should probably add that there are many benefits...) is that Karen has a small appetite, especially now that she is pregnant. That pretty much translates to more food for me. Yay! Needless to say, I was pretty stuffed on Wednesday.
On the agenda for the night: another episode of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and another episode of Angel. The episode of Buffy that we watched was "As You Were", which featured the return of (and final departure of) Riley. For Angel, the episode we watched was "Provider" about Angel losing sight of the mission to help the helpless so that he can financially provide for his son.
Interestingly enough, Karen and Kelley thought Riley's wife (Sam) was worse than Riley. I thought that was kind of funny. As for Angel, the episode is apparently one of the episodes that Marc really dislikes about the show. Truth be told, I think that episode is pretty blah myself.
Nevertheless, we decided to change things up after the blah Angel episode. The movie Green Lantern: First Flight was in Marc and Kelley's Netflix queue and it had arrived. So we decided to check it out.

Now, I suck at Green Lantern: First Flight. Of course, I probably don't suck as bad as Ryan Reynolds who will be playing the costumed superhero in the upcoming movie. I think Ryan Reynolds is single-handedly trying to ruin comic book movies by appearing in all of them. For anyone curious, he was Hannibal King in Blade, Wade Wilson (not the ex-football player)/Deadpool in Wolverine (and the spinoff movie about Deadpool), and now as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern. Granted, if I had a body like Ryan Reynolds, I too would probably walk around in a skinny tight costume too. Luckily for my friends and family... I don't. (Perhaps I'm just jealous?)
Anyway, Green Lantern: First Flight is an animated movie about the DC superhero. The movie has the voice talents of Christopher Meloni (from Law and Order: SVU), Victor Garber (from Alias), Tricia Helfer (from Battlestar Galactica), Michael Madsen (from Reservoir Dogs and Free Willy), and a whole bunch of other actors and actresses. And yes, Juliet Landau (of Buffy fame) is also one of the voices.
The movie was good. The Green Lantern was never one of my favorite superheroes growing up, probably because I thought it was silly that a ring could do pretty much anything... and probably because the guardians of the rings were little trolls. And there is also this one Green Lantern that has a ginormous head. In fact, that Green Lantern is all head (I think the character's name is Ekron). It's scary. Nevertheless, the movie was enjoyable.
And for anyone curious, here is the Green Lantern oath:
In brightest day,
in blackest night,

Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power... Green Lantern's light!

I Suck At Web Soup
Karen and I spent the early part of our day running more errands. So far, it has been a very exciting vacation break, I know. Following the errands, I was again motivated to work on renovating the first floor bathroom.
The task today for the first floor bathroom was to add blocks of wood between the studs (including me... just kidding). Like most home improvement projects, one task always inevitably leads to another unforeseen task.
In the case of our first floor bathroom, the unforeseen task had to deal with our studs which were more noticeable once the insulation was removed from the wall. For anyone curious, our first floor bathroom shares a wall with our kitchen. As our kitchen has cabinets hanging on the wall, the screws that hang the cabinets protrude through the wall.
Normally, the screws that attach cabinets to walls are set into the studs for sturdiness. Oftentimes, when the screw cannot be attached directly to a stud, a drywall anchor is used to hold the screw within the piece of drywall. For anyone who knows me, they would know that I am not a big fan of that idea (even though the anchor works) especially when it comes to hanging heavy objects like cabinets full of breakable dishes.
So naturally, I figured that it would be best to attach pieces of wood (where I can) between the studs such that any future screws can be drilled directly into wood and not simply a drywall anchor. And so, I spent the better part of today cutting wood and attaching the wood between the studs shared by the kitchen and first floor bathroom. Realistically, I probably did not even need to do that. I had just figured it would make installing new kitchen cabinets easier in the future. (I currently don't plan on installing new kitchen cabinets, but you never know.)
Anyway, I had barely finished that home improvement task before going to hang out with my friends (Marc and Kelley). We had switched our weekly get-together day to today because we had plans the rest of the week.
As usual, Marc was gracious enough to make dinner. The risotto dinner he made was delicious. (Cue Rachael Ray's "Yum-O" sound.) I could have eaten all of it.
On the agenda for the night were a few more episodes of the greatest television show ever: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The episodes that we watched were: "Doublemeat Palace" about Buffy's new fast food job; "Dead Things" about Warren killing his ex-girlfriend and attempting to frame Buffy; and "Older and Far Away" about Dawn's guidance counselor/vengeance (justice) demon putting a curse to trap everyone inside Buffy's house on her birthday.
And for anyone curious, the justice demon known as Halfrek was formerly known as Cecily, the object of Spike's (then William) affection who had rejected him. The rejection consequently led the devastated Spike to find Drusilla and become a vampire.
Following the three episodes, we decided to end the night with some Web Soup. Now, I suck at Web Soup.

Web Soup was airing its Golden Download Awards show. Needless to say, the show was comical. In my opinion, the best bit from the show was the watermelon saga. That bit cracked me up.
All in all, it was a great night.

I Suck At Robot Chicken
On Tuesday, Karen and I hung out with my friends (Marc and Kelley). For dinner, Marc cooked up some turkey and veggie burgers. As usual, dinner was delicious. Kelley also made muffins which were also made it a great meal. I still think Kelley and my BFF (Kerry) should have a bake off. The competition would be fun... and judging it would be even better.
Anyway, on the agenda for the night was another episode of the greatest television show ever: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and a couple of episodes of Angel. The episode of Buffy that we watched was "Tabula Rasa", about Willow accidentally making everyone forget their own identity via magic. Guest starring in the episode was Michelle Branch, who sang her song "Goodbye to You" at the end of the episode during a montage of sad moments.
Following Buffy, we watched the following episodes of Angel: "Fredless" about Fred and her reunion with her parents; and "Billy" about the misogynistic Billy whose touch infects men, making them attack women. The most comical scene came in the Fredless episode where Cordelia and Wesley re-enact Angel and Buffy's relationship.
As usual, it was great to watch Buffy and Angel. To end the night, we decided to watch an episode of Robot Chicken. Now, I suck at Robot Chicken.

I Suck At UFC
Yesterday turned out to be quite the busy day.
The morning began with my waffle making experience. Following breakfast, I ended up doing a little home improvement project at my favorite sister-in-law's (Janine).
For anyone curious, I helped my favorite brother-in-law (PJ) build a ramp for his shed so that he could fit his ride-on lawn mower into the shed. And yes, we were able to successfully build the ramp within the day... so the lawn mower is now in his shed and not the garage.
After that, Karen and I hung out with our friends (Marc and Kelley). Marc and Kelley organized a little get together for the UFC pay-per-view for the night. For anyone curious, the main event featured a rematch of Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin. There technically was another co-main event between Josh Koscheck and Anthony Johnson too, but I think Ortiz and Griffin were the bigger names. Anyway, I suck at UFC.
As the UFC pay-per-view was starting late, we decided to catch a couple of episodes of the greatest television show ever: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The episodes that we watched were "All the Way", which was the Halloween episode about Dawn going out on Halloween and getting mixed up with a couple of vampires; and "Once More, with Feeling", which was the famous musical episode.
Interestingly enough, the "All the Way" episode starred Amber Tamblyn as Dawn's friend Janice. For anyone curious, Amber Tamblyn is one quarter of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. She played Tibby in the Sisterhood. Yes, it's sad that I even know that fact.
Needless to say, the musical episode "Once More, with Feeling" was awesome. The episode was very well done. It is probably the best episode of season six in my opinion.
Anyway, after Buffy the four of us watched the UFC pay-per-view. As we were watching, I thought it would be cool to see my friend's (Aimee) husband (Jim) fighting in the octagon for UFC. Yes, my mind does have tangent thoughts some time.
Jim, who I consider the "Deadliest Friend", teaches mixed martial arts. I would definitely not mess with him. Regardless, it would be cool to see him fight at a UFC pay-per-view. I would fight if I could. The only problem is... I don't want anyone to hurt my pretty face... and I definitely don't want to risk getting cauliflower ears. And most likely, I would bleed profusely from my nose because I have a sensitive nose. So maybe I can live vicariously and convince Jim to fight in the octagon ring for UFC. (I have a feeling that my chances of convincing Jim are similar to my chances of convincing my friend Cass to run for mayor of Quincy...)
Of course, Marc also had a great idea. We could just be in the entourage. Apparently, there does not seem to be much involved in being part of the fighter's entourage. Based on the pay-per-view, all a member of the entourage has to do is hug the fighter and attach a sign to the ring. Those tasks do not seem too difficult, even for a person who doesn't like to hug such as myself.
Anyway, I will still have to convince Jim. I'll work on that. All in all, the UFC pay-per-view was fun to watch. It was a great time hanging out as usual. I must admit, I am actually a little excited about the next UFC pay-per-view now.
The morning began with my waffle making experience. Following breakfast, I ended up doing a little home improvement project at my favorite sister-in-law's (Janine).
For anyone curious, I helped my favorite brother-in-law (PJ) build a ramp for his shed so that he could fit his ride-on lawn mower into the shed. And yes, we were able to successfully build the ramp within the day... so the lawn mower is now in his shed and not the garage.
After that, Karen and I hung out with our friends (Marc and Kelley). Marc and Kelley organized a little get together for the UFC pay-per-view for the night. For anyone curious, the main event featured a rematch of Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin. There technically was another co-main event between Josh Koscheck and Anthony Johnson too, but I think Ortiz and Griffin were the bigger names. Anyway, I suck at UFC.
As the UFC pay-per-view was starting late, we decided to catch a couple of episodes of the greatest television show ever: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The episodes that we watched were "All the Way", which was the Halloween episode about Dawn going out on Halloween and getting mixed up with a couple of vampires; and "Once More, with Feeling", which was the famous musical episode.

I Suck At Hanging Out With My Friend
On Thursday, Karen and I hung out with my friends (Marc and Kelley). We had pushed back our weekly get-together to Thursday as Marc had planned to attend something for school on Wednesday. As it turned out, Karen also had a meeting herself on Wednesday with the Friends of the Norwell Public Library. So Thursday it was.
For dinner, Marc created a pasta dish with garlic bread and homemade turkey meatballs. It was delicious. For dessert, Kelley had made some apple bread. The apple bread was also very good, which comes as no surprise because Kelley is quite the baker. In my act of instigating, I would like to see Kelley and my BFF (Kerry) have a bake-off. (For anyone curious, Kerry has been historically praised for her mad baking skills.) I think a bake-off between both of them would be cool. Of course, that's just my opinion. I am just hoping to benefit from eating the baked goods.
Needless to say, the meal was delicious. In fact, the meal was so good that I practically passed out from a food coma during an episode of the world's greatest television show ever: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I must have gorged myself because it was so hard to keep my eyes open while we were watching the episode.
For anyone curious, the episode of Buffy that we watched was "Life Serial", about Sunnydales's three criminal geek masterminds testing Buffy's abilities. It was a comical episode. It's a good thing that I've watched Buffy many times because I had pass out due to the food coma.
Anyway, I shortly came out of my coma thanks to my good friend... sugar. (I had some raspberry lemonade... yum!) And as luck would have it, I came out of my coma just as my friend (Scott) stopped by. Scott lives in New York, but happened to be back in Massachusetts for work. As he was in the neighborhood, he thought he'd stop by.
As always, it was great to see Scott. I don't see my friend, Scott enough. In fact, I suck at hanging out with my friend. We had placed bets on what Scott would be having for dinner that night because Scott is a funny eater. (Scott is not much for vegetables.) Needless to say, he surprised us with a meal from Boston Market... a meal complete with two sides of mashed potatoes.
Needless to say, it was a great night to hang out and laugh with everyone. It was good seeing Scott again.

I Suck At Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Yesterday, Karen and I hung out with my friends (Marc and Kelley). Hanging out with them was just what I needed for the day. Of course, having the world's greatest television show scheduled on the agenda did not hurt either.
For anyone curious, I consider the world's greatest television show being Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Too bad I suck at Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
I also had the song "Daylight" by Matt and Kim stuck in my head for most of yesterday.

The song is one of those catchy tunes that seem to put me in a good mood whenever I hear it. So I have been listening to the album a lot lately. In my opinion, the entire album is pretty good. And after watching the above video, I found out that Kim plays drums.
Anyway, Marc was gracious enough to make dinner last night. He made apple calzones which were really good. Truth be told, apple anything would probably be very good. The calzones were delicious.
And for dessert, Marc even had a special treat: ice cream cake. He made ice cream cake for Karen for her birthday. Seeing the surprise on Karen's face was definitely worth it. I think she enjoyed the ice cream cake. What is not to enjoy? It's ice cream!
As for Buffy, the four of us jumped right into the beginning of the sixth season of the show. It's amazing to think how quickly we have gone through so many seasons already. The episodes we watched included: "Bargaining" part 1 and 2, about the resurrection of Buffy as she takes on a demon motorcycle gang; "After Life" about a demon brought back along with the resurrection of Buffy; and "Flooded" about Buffy's growing financial problems as well as the introduction of the geeky Jonathan, Warren and Andrew as evil criminal masterminds.
Of the four episodes, "Bargaining" probably had the best moment when Tara gave Giles a little monster and said "Grrr... Argh!", which is the same sound made by the "Mutant Enemy" monster at the end of the Buffy credits.
Truth be told, I am not the biggest fan of the sixth season. Don't get me wrong, it was still good. I just happened to like the other seasons better.
Anyway, it was all good. Interestingly enough, after the four episodes of Buffy, we also caught an episode of an episode of Batman: The Brave and The Bold. Normally, we don't watch the show. This time, however, the episode featured none other than Neil Patrick Harris as the evil Music Meister. So basically, the entire show was a musical. It was great!

I Suck At Buffy The Vampire Slayer
On Thursday, Karen and I hung out with my friends (Marc and Kelley). We had scheduled to meet on Thursday because I originally had a company outing on Wednesday this week. As it turns out, that company outing has since been rescheduled due to inclement weather.
Needless to say, on the agenda for the night: watch a couple of episodes of Angel and complete season 5 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Now, I suck at Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
For dinner, the four of us ordered out. We ordered dinner from the Falafel King in Quincy. (Cue Rachael Ray's "Yum-O" sound.) Yum... falafels! We haven't had the Falafel King in quite some time. And as always, the meal was delicious.
Anyway, the episodes of Angel that we managed to watch were: "Dead End" about Lindsey getting a donor hand; and "Belonging" about a demon from Lorne's home dimension that travels to L.A. via a portal. As for the remaining episodes of season five of Buffy, they were: "Spiral" about Buffy and the Gang fleeing in an RV; "Weight of the World" about Buffy going into a catatonic state; and "The Gift", the season finale where Buffy squares off against Glory.
I remember when "The Gift" aired on television. I thought it was a great way to end the season. At the time, the WB network was not going to continue broadcasting the show. (For anyone curious, the show would eventually be aired on the UPN network for another two years.) When the episode ended, there was a message to the WB thanking them for five great years. I thought that was a nice touch.
Anyway, I enjoyed the season five finale. Plus, it was great to hang out with Marc and Kelley.

I Suck At Buffy And Angel
Last night, Karen and I hung out with my friends (Marc and Kelley). When we arrived, Kelley had on a green t-shirt with the Green Lantern insignia on her chest. The geek that I am, I thought the t-shirt was pretty neat. I also thought it was pretty comical because it reminded me of the television show, "The Big Bang Theory".
For anyone curious, Kelley... like the character Sheldon on "The Big Bang Theory"... is a scientist. And it so happens that Sheldon wears a Green Lantern t-shirt. Scientists are a funny group of people. (And in case people are wondering, if I were to wear a character's insignia from DC Comics... it would be the Flash. Asians look good in red. Just kidding.)
Anyway, Marc was gracious enough to make dinner for all of last night. He had a new recipe and wanted to try it out. As usual, the meal was delicious. I don't think there has been anything that Marc (or Kelley) have made that I have not liked.

The episodes of Buffy that we watched were: "Intervention", where Buffy goes for her vision quest while Spike has some fun with a robotic Buffy; and "Tough Love" where Willow and Tara get into their first fight, only to have Glory suck Tara's mind.
As for Angel, the episodes we watched were: "Epiphany" about Angel... having an epiphany about his past actions; and "Disharmony" about Cordelia's friend, Harmony, coming to town for a visit;
We are so close to finishing the fifth and second season of each series respectively. It's amazing how quickly we are going through the episodes. Sadly, all good shows must come to an end.

I Suck At Margaritas
On Wednesday, Karen and I hung out with my friends (Marc and Kelley). We began the night by delivering the ramp that I had made for their cat (Audrey). It was interesting because I don't think Audrey knew what to make of the ramp. Marc and Kelley tried to entice her to use the ramp with food... but to no avail. Eventually, she got on the ramp. (I'm just glad that she actually used it.)
Shortly after, we headed out for dinner. Since Marc's birthday was earlier this month, he had received a coupon from Margaritas Mexican Restaurant to be used this month to receive a discount. So off to Margaritas in Weymouth we went. Unfortunately, I suck at Margaritas. I have not been to Margaritas in some time. It was quite delicious.
After dinner, we headed back to Marc and Kelley's to catch a couple of episodes of the greatest television show ever: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The episodes that we watched were: "The Body" about the death of Buffy's mom; and "Forever" about Dawn's attempt to bring back Buffy's mother from the grave.
Needless to say, neither of the episodes were too uplifting. Regardless, I had a good time as usual.

I Suck At Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Tonight, Karen and I hung out with my friends (Marc and Kelley). On the agenda for the night were more episodes of season 5 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Now, I suck at Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
I always have a great time hanging out with Marc and Kelley. For dinner, Marc made turkey burgers. They were quite delicious, especially since they had bacon on them. Kelley also made her famous chocolate chip cookies. I must have eaten a dozen of them. Her cookies are just that good.
Anyway, the episodes that we watched were: "Checkpoint" about Buffy preparing for a Watcher's Council test to get information about Glory; "Blood Ties" about Dawn's self discovery of being the key; "Crush" about Spike's unrequited crush on Buffy; and "I Was Made to Love You" about a robot searching for her creator, who happens to be Warren.
Of course, they were all good episodes. I probably enjoyed "Crush" the most because I enjoy the character known as Spike. Spike and Angel are throwbacks to when vampires used to be cool. Sadly, vampires are pretty lame now... thanks to the whole Twilight books and their ability to sparkle in the sun. (I have not seen the Trueblood series yet, so hopefully that show will return my faith in vampires.)
To end the night on a high note, we also watched the latest episode of Wipeout. Apparently, the episode of Wipeout took place down under... in Australia. As it turns out, the people down under are equally bizarre as the ones here.
Another one of the highlights for the night was Guitar Hero 5. Marc and Kelley recently got the video game. For anyone curious, Guitar Hero 5 is a game where you play guitar to certain songs. Heck, you can even play drums and sing in the game.
Marc tried to get Karen to sing vocals for Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl" while he played guitar. Unfortunately, Karen gave up too quickly... giving me the honors of doing my best Rick Springfield impersonation.
Normally, I don't like to do karaoke. After singing awful renditions of "Jessie's Girl" (and Blink-182's "The Rock Show"), I'm slowly warming up to performing karaoke. You would think with my genetic makeup that I would enjoy karaoke. Sadly, that is not the case. But the way I figure it now, who cares when you're with friends. If you can't be comfortable about yourself when you're with friends, then it's a little unfortunate.
Besides, it's always good to laugh at yourself once in a while. And with this week in particular, laughing at myself is always better than imbibing copious amounts of booze... not that there is anything wrong with that. I just needed to be silly for a little while.
I think Marc is looking forward to playing Guitar Hero 5 during the sleepover celebration for Kelley's birthday. That should be fun and interesting.

I Suck At Buffy The Vampire Slayer
On Wednesday, Karen and I hung out with my friends (Marc and Kelley). It was our usual get together involving food, television, and laughs.
Marc was gracious enough to make dinner for us. The dinner, consisting of Sloppy Joe's (not to be confused with sloppy seconds), tater tots, and corn was very good. The meal brought back memories of school lunches.
Truth be told, the tater tots reminded me of school lunches. Sloppy Joe's reminded me of the my mother's excitement over making Sloppy Joe's when I was growing up. It was all part of her desire for our family to be All-American. Needless to say, we did not have it too often. As for corn... well, there's not much I can say about corn except that I love corn. My digestive track would probably not find it too appealing, but I could probably good eat tons of corn. Yay, yellow gold!
Anyway, on the agenda for the night was the third disc of the fifth season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Now, I suck at Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The episodes we watched were: "Listening to Fear" about a demon that attacks crazy people... one of whom happened to be Buffy's mother; "Into the Woods" about Riley's departure; and "Triangle" about Willow and Anya accidentally summoning a troll.
Of the episodes, I enjoyed "Triangle" the most. Sure, "Into the Woods" marked the departure of Riley (who I always thought was a tool), but "Triangle" focused on Willow and Anya. And what is not to like about either of them? Plus, the episode featured Abraham Benrubi, who I will always remember as Larry Kubiak, also known as "The Kube", from Parker Lewis Can't Lose.
All in all, it was fun. Oh yes, I forgot. We also tried some more of the dessert sauces that Marc and Kelley got at the farmer's market. The sauce over the ice cream was delicious. (Cue Rachael Ray's "Yum-O" sound.) Of course, I think all ice cream is pretty delicious, so I may be biased.
Marc was gracious enough to make dinner for us. The dinner, consisting of Sloppy Joe's (not to be confused with sloppy seconds), tater tots, and corn was very good. The meal brought back memories of school lunches.
Truth be told, the tater tots reminded me of school lunches. Sloppy Joe's reminded me of the my mother's excitement over making Sloppy Joe's when I was growing up. It was all part of her desire for our family to be All-American. Needless to say, we did not have it too often. As for corn... well, there's not much I can say about corn except that I love corn. My digestive track would probably not find it too appealing, but I could probably good eat tons of corn. Yay, yellow gold!

I Still Suck At Buffy The Vampire Slayer
On Wednesday, my friends (Marc and Kelley) came over. With the heat and the humidity, Marc thought it best to get together at our place because Karen and I have central air. And heck, I surely was not going to object to the idea.
After all, I dislike humidity. The ever present feeling of being sticky has never been high on my list of tactile sensations. Plus, the heat and humidity generally causes me to become sluggish. (Although, I have yet to leave a trail of slime...) So, I'm all for central air if it helps me avoid that feeling.
So it was great having Marc and Kelley come over. We fired up the grill for some burgers and hot dogs for dinner. So I did have to be exposed to the humidity for a little while. (I'd shake my fist at the humidity if I could.)
On the agenda was the greatest TV show ever: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Too bad I still suck at Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Having been off on vacation last week seemed to have thrown me off. I felt like I couldn't remember where we had left off in the season or anything. Of course, it could have just been my bad memory.
Anyway, the episodes we watched included: "No Place Like Home", which introduced the main villain for the season (Glory) and provided insight on how Buffy came to have a sister after four seasons; "Family", about Tara as her relatives attempt to bring her home; "Fool for Love", about how William the Bloody came to be Spike; and "Shadow", about Buffy's mom going to the hospital for her tumor.
Of the four, I enjoyed the episode about Spike the most. Interestingly enough, Amy Adams (of "Enchanted" fame... and "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby") appeared in one of the episodes. She played Tara's cousin. I always get a kick out of seeing current actors and actresses in episodes of Buffy and Angel. The one that still sticks out in my mind is Josh Holloway (a.k.a. Sawyer from "Lost") in the first episode of Angel.
Needless to say, I had fun hanging out with Marc and Kelley as we watched Buffy.

I Suck At Buffy The Vampire Slayer
On the agenda tonight for my weekly get together with my friends (Marc and Kelley) was the start of Season 5 for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Now, I suck at Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Perish the thought, but around season 5 of the greatest television show ever is where (in my opinion) Angel was actually a little more interesting. Season 5 of Buffy introduces Buffy's sister, Dawn. Angel had Darla.
But before all of us could dive into Buffy, we ordered a little take out from the Falafel King located in Quincy. I love the Falafel King. The food is always delicious there. (Cue Rachael Raye's "Yum-O" sound.) When I used to work in town, my usual at the Falafel King consisted of the falafel sandwich. Since then, I have branched out. My new usual has become the lamb shawarma plate.
If dinner were not delicious enough, Kelley also made her famous chocolate chip cookies. I love Kelley's chocolate chip cookies. I could probably eat a whole bunch of them at one sitting... which may be an interesting challenge.
Anyway, the episodes of Buffy that we watched included: "Buffy vs. Dracula", about the legendary prince of darkness himself; "Real Me", about Dawn; "The Replacement", about Xander being split in two; and "Out of My Mind", about Riley's irregular heartbeat.
It's tough to say which episode I enjoyed the most. As an interesting tidbit of information, Tom Lenk appeared in the "Real Me" episode as one of Harmony's vampire minions. Tom Lenk would later join the cast as Andrew. Regardless, the four episodes were enough to finish off the first DVD disc. So on the agenda next is Angel. Yay!
Following the episodes of Buffy, we decided to unwind with a little Wipeout episode. Apparently, this episode of Wipeout was a special "couples" episode. Winning the prize tonight was the couple that I had personally rooted for. The only reason I had rooted for them, aside from the fact that the other couple was a scary muscularly looking (and bizarre) couple, was because the guy could do a moose impression. And for anyone curious, no... I am not a muscle-ist (a made-up word for one who discriminates against muscular people) like my friend (Hot Amy).
And by moose impression, I don't mean he made moose noises. The guy was this lanky pasty white guy. He took off his shirt, inflated his stomach, and placed his hands (palms out) next to his nipples to make the appearance of antlers. It was a rather amazing sight. It was also amazing that this tall lanky guy was actually pretty good at the show.
Needless to say, it was a good time as usual. Interestingly enough, Karen and I learned that Marc had a bite on his leg that looked similar to mine. I wonder if he received it at the Union Brew House in Weymouth, like I did. If so, the bugs there must be mean because both Marc and I still have the red marks from the bites. If my favorite sister-in-law (Janine) were there, she would probably blame it on the town of Weymouth. Weymouth... (shake fist...)

I Suck At Buffy The Vampire Slayer
on sunday, i finished demolishing our first floor bathroom. everything, including the electrical, in the bathroom has been torn down to the studs. so now the renovation can actually begin! (well... once plans are drawn up and all.)
following the demolition of the bathroom, karen and i hung out with my friends (marc and kelley). in an attempt to progress through the series, marc and kelley wanted to see if we were interested in watching more episodes of the greatest television show ever: buffy the vampire slayer. i suck at buffy the vampire slayer... so of course i was all in for watching more episodes.
after ordering takeout from the imperial terrace in quincy, the four of us watched the remaining episodes from season four of buffy the vampire slayer. the episodes included: "the yoko factor" about spike breaking up the group of friends a la yoko and the beatles; "primeval" about the conclusion and final battle with adam; and "restless" about the very first slayer and the groundwork for the arrival of buffy's sister, dawn.
one of the puzzling questions that came about in regards to buffy... is the cheese man who appears in the "restless" episode. for anyone curious, the cheese man has actually been a topic of debate in the buffy world.
according to joss whedon:
"The cheese man means nothing. He is the only thing in the show that means nothing. I needed something like that, something that couldn't be explained, because dreams always have that one element that is just RIDICULOUS. Thus, man of cheese. Plus funny. (to me)"
nevertheless, fans will be fans and they will be undeterred in finding a meaning for the cheese man.

I Suck At Deadliest Friend
last night actually turned out to be quite a fun night.
wednesdays are generally the days i get to hang out with my friends (marc and kelley). and as usual, karen and i had plans to hang out with them. unfortunately for me, work has been a little hectic of late.
the company that i work for wanted to launch a particular project. normally, launching a project would not be a problem... except that the launch was scheduled last minute for yesterday... after work hours. so there was a lot of haste and stress in preparing the project for the launch. in fact, by the end of the work day, i actually had a headache... which is something that normally doesn't happen.
needless to say, i was a little stressed about this project, particularly with the haste in getting things launched. but the headache pretty much disappeared when my boss told me those lovely words: "the launch is cancelled". of course, the two martinis that kelley made may also have helped with that as well.
anyway, i definitely felt much better and more relieved as the night went on. karen and i were still able to hang out with marc and kelley. in fact, marc made some delicious ribs for dinner. the dinner was very good.
and making the night even better was the fact that we got to watch three episodes of the greatest television show ever: buffy the vampire slayer. the episodes we watched were "superstar" about the lowly, but seemingly fantastic, jonathan; "where the wild things are" about buffy and riley pretty much being hot and heavy and locked up in a room together; and "new moon rising" which had the return of oz... only to see him leave again after finding out about willow's new relationship.
of the three episodes, i actually liked "new moon rising" the best because it centered on willow. and because the episode was not exactly one of the more comical ones, the four of us decided to watch the two hour showing of wipeout after buffy. wipeout is such a silly fun show. you just have to laugh watching it.
needless to say, after dreading the night due to the project launch, the night actually turned out great. it definitely helps to have friends like marc and kelley who can just make you laugh and forget all about the stressful things in life.
after all, where else but among friends can we talk about a silly idea that i call... deadliest friend. now, i suck at deadliest friend. as i am apt to do, i occasionally get an idea stuck in my head and run with it.
inspired by the show, deadliest warrior, and... also somewhat inspired by friends... i have been thinking a lot about a fight simulation program where scientific data is collected on my friends. from there, the data is entered into the program and the computer simulates a battle to the death scenario between my friends.
i started to think of metrics to measure the deadliness of my friends: things like how much force my friends throw when throwing a punch; how many times they can strike within a given time frame; arm reach; leg reach; dexterity; dodging ability; pain treshhold; psychology tests; etc. and to even make it so that one friend would not dominate (like my friend jim), i thought about different arena settings and other variables like alcohol impairment.
needless to say, i may have thought a little too much about my fight simulation program. but, i thought a fight simulation would be a fun thing to have for whenever there is a heated disagreement within my circle of friends... and i have witnessed a few over the years.
for instance, in high school i remember witnessing my bff (kerry) and my friend (jenny) having a heated tirade at the football stadium in quincy. now, wouldn't it be cool to see who would have really won the argument if they battled to the death (or had a simulated battle to the death)? i know i'd be curious about those results.
the matchup possibilities are endless. and quite possibly the best part about the fight simulation: no one actually gets hurt and we can all laugh about the absurdity of it all. how fun would that be? now all i have to do is create the program... and perhaps get scientific equipment to record metrics...

I Suck At Deadliest Warrior
with it being wednesday yesterday, karen and i got to hang out with my friends (marc and kelley). karen recently acquired a recipe from one of her coworkers for beer bread. as it turns out, marc and kelley were interested in trying the beer bread. so last night, they came over for some beer bread... and chili to go with the bread. anyway, i think marc and kelley enjoyed the beer bread. (for anyone curious, the beer used in the making of the bread was blue moon.)
following dinner, the four of us watched the season finale of "deadliest warrior". now i suck at deadliest warrior. the show matches historical warriors against one another in a computer simulation based on various pieces of "scientific" data gathered in regards to weapons and all of that. (i use the term "science" loosely because there are inconsistencies in the weapon experiments.)
as a side note, karen and i caught an old "friends" show in which joey and monica were discussing who would win in a fight between some of their friends. "deadliest warrior" reminded me of that... except without the friends part. and for the record, i think my friend's (aimee) husband (jim) would kill every one of my friends. although, if i were to choose a female... i'd probably go with my bff (kerry) because i have seen her angry... really angry... just not at me... yet.
regardless, the matchup for the season finale of deadliest warrior was the ira (irish republican army) versus the taliban. truth be told, either terrorist group is hard to cheer for. i would probably say the least despicable is probably the ira... just because i have an affinity for all things irish. as it turned out, the ira won the computer simulation. naturally, that led all of us to think that the united states should have tried to send the ira over to afghanistan to get osama bin laden. it would have been easier...
as if one episode were not enough, we watched another episode of deadliest warrior afterwards. this matchup pitted a viking versus a samurai. for anyone curious, marc disagreed with the outcome of that battle.
anyway, with all the battling... we decided to watch another episode of television's greatest show: buffy the vampire slayer. the episode was titled "who are you?", and was about buffy and faith in each other's body after some magic had switched them. the episode marked the beginning of faith's road to redemption. (i have yet to ask karen or kelley about their opinions on faith after the episode... because neither of them liked that character too much.) i think one of the reasons why i like faith so much (beside the fact that she's cute) is because she is one of the more complicated characters on the show. she has all this power to do good. unfortunately, she doesn't really have her own identity living in the shadows of buffy. and she's angry with herself for what she has become. i just find the character interesting. but that's just me. and like i said, the cute factor may help too.
to end the night on a cheery note, we decided to also watch the latest episode of "wipeout". i think i may be addicted to wipeout. i can see why my mom and marc enjoy the show so much. the show is just funny to watch. the winner of last night's episode had the show-given moniker "deadbeat daughter" because she was 29 and still living with her parents. the moniker cracked me up.
anyway, it was a fun night... especially at the end when marc attempted to do a push-up on our floor using the push-up bars we have on our yoga mat. it was very amusing. that... and the labeling of his nether region with the word "testicles" that he created with karen's label maker. the label was a bit high for the anatomical area... unless of course the testicles really really did not descend... which made it more amusing.

yesterday, karen and i hung out with my friends (marc and kelley). for the past couple of months, the four of us have been getting together on thursday nights due to our busy schedules. last night marked our first return back to wednesday nights. the reason for the switch back to wednesday: the season finale of lost.
now, i suck at lost. i still believe lost is the best show on television right now. the writing and plot twists are well done. and last night's season finale was no different. the season finale was amazing... so much so that karen and i kept talking about the show on our way home, which is something we don't normally do. truth be told, i will be sad after next season. the next season of lost is the final season for the show.
to my knowledge, i have only been sad for a series finale twice thus far: once was for the series finale of buffy the vampire slayer; the other was for angel. as much as i enjoyed the show, alias, i was not that sad when that series ended... even though alias was a good show.
nevertheless, i had a great time last night. amidst the lasagna dinner and the peanut butter and jelly bar dessert (cue rachael ray's "yum-o" sound), we began the night with an episode of buffy. the episode "this year's girl" featured the return of faith, much to the dismay of karen who absolutely dislikes that character on the show.
as that was the last episode on the disc, we then switched over to angel... even though the buffy episode was a two-part episode. the episodes of angel that we watched were "expecting" about cordelia getting impregnated by a demon after a one night stand, and "she" about demon women being slaves.
sad to say, i forgot how terrible the episode "she" was. thankfully, the writers decided not to make the character jhiera a recurring character on the show. jhiera was played by the actress bai ling. for those lost fans, bai ling played the woman on lost who inspired jack's tattoo (the episode "stranger in a strange land" from season 3). that episode from lost was equally awful. it must be the curse of bai ling. every guest appearance she does on a show... makes the episode awful.
anyway, after watching the episodes of buffy and angel... the season finale of lost aired. without revealing too much... the episode was awesome. i'm going to miss the show when the series ends.
