Today, Karen, my eighteen month old daughter (Briana) and I had our weekly get together with my friends (Marc, Kelley, and Andrea). For me, it was a welcomed break primarily because I have had a lot going on at work for what seems like an eternity. So any chance to focus on the finer things in life is good.
Marc and Kelley had recorded Deadliest Warrior for all of us to watch. Now, I suck at Deadliest Warrior. I'm afraid I haven't watched many, if any, of the match ups this season. Karen, especially, wanted to watch this particular match up because it was vampires versus zombies. I think she was more interested in who the show would use as their "experts". I think we were expecting a nerd fest.
And as a side note, I hope my BFF (Kerry) as well as the emergency management team of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts watched the episode. According to Kerry, who is into emergency management, there currently are no preparations for a zombie apocalypse in Massachusetts. So residents of the Commonwealth should beware in the event of a zombie apocalypse. There will be chaos.
Speaking of zombies, Marc and Kelley also got a new video game: Dead Island... about zombies. Zombie video games are always fun. As for the show, [SPOILER ALERT] the apex predators known as vampires won which I'm sure is sad news for the fans of zombie nation... and young teeny bopper girls who are members of Team Jacob.
Following the show, all of us also watched the season premiere of Tosh.0. The premiere was okay. There were some good chuckles in show. And as usual, it was good to hang out with everyone.

I Suck At Deadliest Warrior
Last night, my friends (Marc and Andrea) came over. My friend (Kelley) unfortunately could not make it. We have this on-going joke amongst our circle of friends for whenever a particular friend can not make a gathering. In the case of Kelley, we sometimes joke that she has the "Kelley Runs". I know, it's not the most visually appealing joke. (And for anyone curious, Kelley did not have the Kelley Runs last night.)
Anyway, it just so happened that Lost was a repeat yesterday. The episode was about Richard... complete with the useless pop up bubble information. We, however, did not watch Lost. Instead, we decided to have ourselves a night of Spike TV. Spike TV is simply another channel that is not public access. For the life of me, I still don't understand how my friend (Hot Amy) can only watch public access because the programming on those stations are god awful, but that's just my opinion. I am also starting to wonder if her sanitary engineering fiance (Mark) watches anything either. (Mark is not really a sanitation engineer... or is he?)
Regardless, Spike TV was airing an episode from the second season of the Deadliest Warrior. Now I suck at Deadliest Warrior. I find the show pretty enjoyable because it plays on intriguing "what if" scenarios. And to add a little geekiness to the show, there is a computer programmer who simulates the battle scenario between the two combatants due to some "scientific" data that is collected during the show.
Needless to say, in my warped little world, if I were to apply the concept of the show to my friends, the results would probably be my friend (James) as the deadliest male friend and my BFF (Kerry) as the deadliest female friend. Although with Kelley's running into battle with guns blazing combat style... she may stand a chance.
Anyway, it was the first time Andrea had watched an episode of the Deadliest Warrior. To prepare her for the show, we naturally watched a few UFC matches beforehand. Apparently, Andrea has never watched a UFC fight as well. I'm not sure if Andrea enjoyed watching the UFC bouts like my BFF. For Kerry, I think she enjoyed (very much so) watching a certain UFC fighter is his tight little spandex shorts.
Speaking of UFC, Marc and I had a brief discussion about whether we could do participate or not. Aside from my sensitive nose, which gushes blood with but a single glance, I'm not so sure I could (or would) do it. It's not the getting punched that I would be worried about. It's the grappling with a sweaty combatant that would deter me. I just wouldn't want my skin to come into contact with the skin of another sweaty guy.
On a side note, I almost forgot. Andrea brought these delicious chocolate covered pretzels last night. The chocolate covered pretzels were from Whole Foods. Now, I'm normally not one for pretzels because I find them more often than naught too dry for my taste. But cover them in milk chocolate... and yum! Needless to say, the chocolate covered pretzels from Whole Foods were delicious. (Cue Rachael Ray's "Yum-O" sound.) It's no wonder why Andrea has taken quite a liking to them.
All in all, it was good to hang out last night. Karen and I had missed seeing them the prior week, so it was good to catch up again. I had a lot of fun.

I Suck At Deadliest Warrior
with it being wednesday yesterday, karen and i got to hang out with my friends (marc and kelley). karen recently acquired a recipe from one of her coworkers for beer bread. as it turns out, marc and kelley were interested in trying the beer bread. so last night, they came over for some beer bread... and chili to go with the bread. anyway, i think marc and kelley enjoyed the beer bread. (for anyone curious, the beer used in the making of the bread was blue moon.)
following dinner, the four of us watched the season finale of "deadliest warrior". now i suck at deadliest warrior. the show matches historical warriors against one another in a computer simulation based on various pieces of "scientific" data gathered in regards to weapons and all of that. (i use the term "science" loosely because there are inconsistencies in the weapon experiments.)
as a side note, karen and i caught an old "friends" show in which joey and monica were discussing who would win in a fight between some of their friends. "deadliest warrior" reminded me of that... except without the friends part. and for the record, i think my friend's (aimee) husband (jim) would kill every one of my friends. although, if i were to choose a female... i'd probably go with my bff (kerry) because i have seen her angry... really angry... just not at me... yet.
regardless, the matchup for the season finale of deadliest warrior was the ira (irish republican army) versus the taliban. truth be told, either terrorist group is hard to cheer for. i would probably say the least despicable is probably the ira... just because i have an affinity for all things irish. as it turned out, the ira won the computer simulation. naturally, that led all of us to think that the united states should have tried to send the ira over to afghanistan to get osama bin laden. it would have been easier...
as if one episode were not enough, we watched another episode of deadliest warrior afterwards. this matchup pitted a viking versus a samurai. for anyone curious, marc disagreed with the outcome of that battle.
anyway, with all the battling... we decided to watch another episode of television's greatest show: buffy the vampire slayer. the episode was titled "who are you?", and was about buffy and faith in each other's body after some magic had switched them. the episode marked the beginning of faith's road to redemption. (i have yet to ask karen or kelley about their opinions on faith after the episode... because neither of them liked that character too much.) i think one of the reasons why i like faith so much (beside the fact that she's cute) is because she is one of the more complicated characters on the show. she has all this power to do good. unfortunately, she doesn't really have her own identity living in the shadows of buffy. and she's angry with herself for what she has become. i just find the character interesting. but that's just me. and like i said, the cute factor may help too.
to end the night on a cheery note, we decided to also watch the latest episode of "wipeout". i think i may be addicted to wipeout. i can see why my mom and marc enjoy the show so much. the show is just funny to watch. the winner of last night's episode had the show-given moniker "deadbeat daughter" because she was 29 and still living with her parents. the moniker cracked me up.
anyway, it was a fun night... especially at the end when marc attempted to do a push-up on our floor using the push-up bars we have on our yoga mat. it was very amusing. that... and the labeling of his nether region with the word "testicles" that he created with karen's label maker. the label was a bit high for the anatomical area... unless of course the testicles really really did not descend... which made it more amusing.
