I Suck At The Super Bowl

As far as football goes, there is not a lot I can say about the Super Bowl itself. You can say I suck at the Super Bowl, but truth of the matter is the New England Patriots suck at the Super Bowl. Sadly, the Patriots lost yet again to those New York Giants, this time by a score of 21-17. As a fan, it's disheartening to see the team come so close. One play could have been the difference between the victory and the loss. It just wasn't meant to be this year for the Patriots. Oh well.

Game aside, it was good to see my friends (Ron, Trinh, and Aimee) again. Ron and Trinh hosted a quasi-Super Bowl party/play date of sorts. The last time Ron, Aimee, and I got together, we set up tentative plans for the next time our children could play together. That date just happened to coincide with the Super Bowl.

Despite the Patriots loss, it was a great time as usual. One of Ron and Trinh's nieces was quite excited to play with our twenty two month old daughter (Briana). It was very cute. Ron's mother even told me how good Briana was that night. Briana has them all fooled. Just kidding.

Needless to say, I had a great time, as did Briana who surpisingly did not take a nap the entire day.

I Suck At Home Improvement

Knowing that I was working on renovating the bathroom on our first floor, My BFF (Kerry) offered to lend a hand with my home improvement project yesterday. To be honest, I was quite ecstatic to have some... any... help to finish the project before our baby arrives. I always feel like I'm being a pain or imposing whenever I do ask for help. So needless to say, I was quite happy when Kerry offered her services because I suck at home improvement.

We began working on the bathroom after a brief stint at my favorite sister-in-law's (Janine), Marathon Sports, and Extreme Pita located in Norwell. I had to drop Karen off at Janine's as they were attending a Lia Sophia jewelry party up in the great white yonder known as Lowell. From there, Kerry and I went to Marathon Sports so that Kerry could purchase new running sneakers. (That store makes me feel like running. Someday, I'll start running again.) Then from there, we grabbed a quick bite to eat at Extreme Pita (it's extreme!!).

Eventually, we worked on the bathroom renovation project. The task at hand for the day: installing drywall. Earlier in the week, my friends (Andrea and Kelley) helped me install the sheets of drywall to the ceiling. So on Sunday, Kerry helped install the drywall to the walls.

I may be starting to get a complex about doing home improvement projects with my friends. It's not that my friends were bad at helping. Quite the opposite. They were very good and very helpful. I'm thankful for all of their help. It just seemed to me that Andrea, Kelley, and Kerry were all worried about messing up the project and consequently the house. In case you are curious, they didn't mess up. As far as home improvement projects go, drywall installation is one of the easier projects to do because all you are doing is screwing the drywall into studs (like me). And even if they did mess up, it's not a big deal.

Like I have told some of my friends in terms of home improvement, anything that has been done can be undone. So there is no need to worry about things. Plus, it's not like the project I am having them help with concerns electrical, plumbing or structural work... all of which can actually cause major damage to a house. Needless to say, I sometimes wonder if my friends are simply afraid that I am too bossy or something. Thus, my developing complex.

Anyway, it turns out that like most of my friends, Kerry has never installed drywall before. And because I still have the mindset of a 5 year old, Kerry is great at screwing. (Snicker.) While I had measured and cut the pieces of drywall to fit the area, Kerry was attaching the pieces of drywall to the marked studs (again... like me). We completed two walls, which was great. Thanks again Kerry for the help!

Eventually, Kerry had to go. So from there, I tidied up the bathroom before heading over to Janine's. Janine was having a little SuperBowl party. The party was great. Joining the festivities was my friend (Gretchen). As usual, the food was delicious. Janine made a great taco calzone. (Cue Rachael Ray's "Yum-O" sound.)

And of course, the New Orleans Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts. As a New England Patriots fan, any time the Colts lose is a good time. So it was a fun night.

I Suck At Watching The Super Bowl

yesterday actually began a little sluggishly because my bff (kerry) and i did not go to bed till 3:00am the night before. kerry, karen, my favorite sister-in-law (janine), and i had watched the first season of veronica mars into the wee hours of night. when janine went home and karen went to bed, kerry and i simply hung out a little more. (we were surprised ourselves when we found out that it was 3 in the morning.)

needless to say, kerry spent the night. as is customary for whenever someone spends the night, we generally make or go out for breakfast the next morning. it simply completes the whole "bed and breakfast" experience. on the menu for breakfast... eggs and toast... because it's hard to mess up cooking an egg (or toast for that matter)... and i can handle making that. plus, we were able to use up the leftover french fries from the night we went out to the 99 restaurant with bill and jen.

after breakfast, the three of us did what any person would do after watching the first season of a tv show: we watched more episodes from the second season. and so, kerry, karen and i spent the rest of the day watching more episodes of veronica mars. it's amazing how much time gets sucked away when you watch five more episodes of the second season.

when we eventually stopped watching, kerry looked up rob thomas, the writer and producer of veronica mars on the internet movie database. it turns out that rob thomas has ties to dawson's creek and 90210... two of kerry's favorite shows. so it's no wonder why kerry (or me for that matter) likes veronica mars so much. and for anyone curious, there are rumors that there may be a veronica mars movie.

anyway, after kerry left, karen and i were feeling rather unproductive. normally on super bowl sunday, we usually have plans. in the past, our plans generally involved going to mass for karen's grandfather, followed by a party at my friend's (ron). yes, karen's grandfather's mass has coincidentally always been on super bowl sunday.

this year, however, karen's grandfather's mass was scheduled for a different sunday... and ron did not have a super bowl party. my friend (cass) had thought about having people over for a party, but i do not believe he ended up having it. so needless to say, karen and i did not have any plans for super bowl sunday. it was actually nice to have no plans for once on super bowl sunday.

after spending countless hours watching veronica mars, karen and i were not in the mood to go out. and we really weren't in the mood to have more people over. so, we basically hung out and watched the super bowl together (with the occasional channel flip to "my big fat greek wedding" because karen loves that movie). yes, i suck at watching the super bowl.

i must say, this is the second year of a disappointing super bowl. (the first being the utter collapse of the unbeaten new england patriots last year to the new york giants.) although not as bad as last year, this year had the pittsburgh steelers winning the super bowl. the steelers have a great organization. too bad i dislike the steelers... a lot. plus, i would have liked to watch the arizona cardinals win because it would have been the first time ever for their organization had they won. it would have been one of those feel good stories... whereby kurt warner, quarterback for the cardinals, could finally retire and go out on top. but oh well... i don't care that much about it, so i'm sure i'll get over it.

anyway, it was nice to just spend time with karen and have an unproductive day.

i almost forgot. yesterday also marked the beginning of our attempt to dine out less, which should be good for my ever increasing waist line. i have been noticing, as i have been writing posts to this blog, that i seem to eat out... a lot... due to my sheer laziness in wanting to cook. this of course, may lead to an increase in my attempt to make wagers against my friend (hot amy) so that i can simply have her make meals for me instead (and consequently karen). but, we'll see how the diminished dining out thing goes. i fear for my health, and probably for my wallet, that it is best that we do dine out less.

I Suck At The SuperBowl

it's a going to be a very sad few days here in new england.

the new york giants have just upset the new england patriots in superbowl 42 by a score of 17-14. it's most unfortunate because everyone will always remember the superbowl loss and not the extraordinary season the patriots had in 2007. the patriots went 16-0 in the regular season; 2-1 in the playoffs. that feat has never been done in the modern era of professional football and it should be remembered regardless of the whole "spygate" incident.

needless to say, the giants deserve the win. they outplayed the patriots and were more "hungrier" for the victory than the patriots. apparently, plaxico burress was correct in predicting the giants victory and he was pretty close at predicting the final score too of 23-17. the dreadful offensive performance by the patriots should make brady eat his words when he scoffed at burress's prediction and retorted "we're only going to score 17 points? ok. is plax playing defense? i wish he said 45-42 and gave us a little credit for scoring more points."

as it turns out, there was no need to give the new england patriot offense credit for scoring more points because tom brady and the patriot offense sucked at the superbowl. i blame gisele...
