Saturday started off with a very nice treat. The day prior, my friend (Aimee) sent me a link about how Friendly's was offering free Fribbles as a sign of customer appreciation. The offer was too good to pass up. (Thanks Aimee!) Naturally, Karen and I decided to treat our twenty two month old daughter (Briana) as well.
So off we went to Friendly's for our Fribbles. Might I add, the Fribbles were very delicious. Briana even enjoyed hers. She looked happy as a clam sucking down her strawberry Fribble. I don't think I've ever seen her so content.
Anyway, later that night all of us went over to my parents for dinner. My parents hosted their annual Chinese New Year celebration dinner. Too bad I suck at Chinese New Year. For anyone curious, the Chinese new year is today. It's early this year. And it so happens to be the year of the Dragon, which is supposed to bring good fortune. I actually think this year is a water dragon, which means water will be powerful this year. So beware of floods.
My friends (Marc and Kelley) came to my parents' dinner this year. All this time, I never realized that Marc actually wanted to partake in the dinner. Consequently, I had never invited him and Kelley during the celebration of Chinese New Year. Oops! So this year was the first time they attended the dinner.
Also in attendance were my mother-in-law and father-in-law, my cousin (Betty) and her son (Marvin), and my friends (Andrea, Jen and Bill). Normally, as with most family gatherings, I get a little stressed particularly because I'm running around between helping my parents with the food and entertaining their guests. This year, however, was a much different story.
I was definitely more relaxed than in past dinners. I think probably the reason was Briana and her ability to entertain everyone while I helped my parents. Needless to say, I thought dinner was great. I enjoyed the food that my parents made. It was delicious and definitely better tasting than the food from Chinese restaurants. But of course, I could be biased.
I must say, however, that I feel like I did not get to socialize as much as I would have liked. Poor Bill spent a good chunk of time watching some awful Chinese soap opera with my cousin. I did, however, find out that Jen has already made an appointment for her driving test. She's taking the test some time in February, which is pretty exciting.
Anyway, like I said, it was a great night celebrating Chinese New Year with family and friends.

I Suck At Friendly's
On Saturday, Friendly's was having its annual free ice cream day. (For anyone curious, Friendly's offered customers a free scoop of ice cream between the hours of noon to 5 pm.) This day has been marked on Karen's calendar for awhile. After all, Karen and I do thoroughly enjoy the taste of ice cream. Hopefully, our baby daughter (Briana) will also appreciate the wholesome yumminess known as ice cream some day.
Anyway because I suck at Friendly's, we had planned according for this day. And by "planned accordingly", I mean we purposely set out to hit the local Friendly's around noon time. It just so happens that we hit two local Friendly's for ice cream.
During the late morning, Karen and I (and Briana) ran a couple of errands. We eventually ended up at the Hanover Mall, where there just happens to be... a Friendly's. So after grabbing a bite to eat for lunch (at Subway... to which we have really gotten a lot of mileage out of the Subway gift card that was given to us), we headed on down to Friendly's. Needless to say, the free scoop of ice cream was delicious. I had the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup on a cone. (Cue Rachael Ray's "Yum-O" sound.)
The ice cream was great. In fact, it was so good that on our way home from the Hanover Mall, we went to the other Friendly's located on route 53 just up the street. There too, I had another scoop of Reese's Peanut Butter Cup on a cone. It was like heaven... so much ice cream... so little time. I would probably have hit all the Friendly's in the area if I could.
Needless to say, it was a good day. Of course, my stomach was making so many noises afterwards. It was a little comical to hear the constant gurgling of my tummy while holding Briana. I'm not sure Briana knew what to make of those sounds.
Anyway, from there the rest of the day was pretty uneventful. Karen and I decided to watch Igor.

As far as animated movies go, the movie was okay. It was the predictable run-of-the-mill kid movie. For anyone curious, the plot is about a hunchbacked assistant (Igor) who aspires to become an evil mad scientist (in a world of mad scientists and evil inventions). An opportunity arises and he creates a monster known as Eva (a mispronunciation of "evil"). Of course, Eva is far from evil... and... well... you know... predictable run-of-the-mill stuff. But the movie was entertaining... and how could it not be... Igor was voiced by John Cusack.

I Suck At Five Guys
Tuesday was quite the busy day.
At work, my coworkers and I decided to go out for lunch. We ended up eating at Five Guys located in Swampscott. Now, I suck at Five Guys. I have never been to Five Guys but I have heard great things about their burgers. Since the Five Guys location in Swampscott was relatively new, we decided to give it a go.
Needless to say, the food was delicious. For anyone curious, the regular burger is a two-patty burger. Their "little" size is a one patty burger. Of course, I went for the two-patty burger with large cajun fries. It was very good. I was so stuffed following lunch. I would definitely go back to Five Guys.
After work, Karen and I ran a little errand at Target located in Hanover. We were looking for energy saving curtains. As well, I had my guilty pleasure moment of purchasing a new cd that was released on Tuesday. For anyone curious, that new cd was Glee: The Music, Volume 1. Glee is one of those new television shows that I enjoy watching this season. It just cracks me up.
Anyway, while leaving Target, Karen and I saw my friends (Ron and Trinh) and their family. Ron and Trinh, and their kids, were just arriving as we were leaving. It was nice to see them. And I must say, their kids are very cute. The middle child (Aree) was being dramatic and did not want to be buckled into the shopping carriage. It was cute.
Unfortunately, we could not chat that long with Ron and Trinh. We were actually running a little late for another get together with my friends (Hugh and Jenny) and their children. Jenny and Karen have been trying to find a time to get together. As well, Karen wanted to tell Jenny about her pregnancy. So, we were supposed to meet Jenny and Hugh at Friendly's in Hanover, which was just up the street from the Target.
It was nice seeing Hugh and Jenny again. Unfortunately, I was still a little stuffed from the Five Guys experience to eat that much at Friendly's. But, I had ice cream! It probably goes without saying that Hugh and Jenny were happy to hear the news.
All in all, it was nice busy day.

I Suck At Friendly's
today, karen and i spontaneously went out for dinner.
my friend (jen) contacted us today to see if we would be interested in grabbing a bite to eat. as karen and i have not really had the opportunity to hang out with jen during the birth, life, and death of our son (braden), we figured it would be good for us.
anyway, we decided to go to friendly's. now, i suck at friendly's. the dinner plan, however, was to go for dinner and then indulge... with ice cream. for anyone who does not know me... both karen and i love ice cream. if karen weren't a dietitian, i would say that ice cream should be one of the four major food groups.

anyway, karen and i picked up jen and went to friendly's in quincy... which, for anyone who is curious, was a place of employment at one time for my friend (hot amy). i believe that friendly's was also where my other friend (garv) first met hot amy and coined her now infamous moniker "hot".
apparently, friendly's is running a promotion right now where you can get an entree, a drink, and ice cream for $10. what a deal!
in all my years, i don't think i have never gone into that friendly's and seen it packed. the three of us actually had to wait to be seated. the crowds shortly disappeared while we were there, but it was interesting to see the place so full of people... particularly children. it was also a good thing that i had used the bathroom prior to going to friendly's because there was apparently a long waiting line for the bathroom. (speaking of which, i guess it's also a good thing i'm not lactose intolerant either because eating ice cream would be painful.)
