I Suck At Coop's

tonight was supposed to be the start of my chauffeuring services for the year. by chauffeuring services, i mean i was going to be doing my best driving miss daisy impersonation shuttling my friend (hot amy) and karen home from simmons college. hot amy and karen are teaching a nutrition course wednesday nights at simmons.

due to inclement weather consisting of snow and slush, however, my chauffeuring services were not needed. simmons college canceled classes for the night. thus, i was off the hook in terms of driving the two miss daisies.

before the cancellation of the class, my original plan was to meet up with my friend (carlos) for a quick dinner at one of his favorite restaurants... the hancock tavern located in quincy... before heading into town to pick up hot amy and karen. carlos has been wanting to hang out for some time with me.

needless to say, with the cancellation of classes at simmons college, hot amy and karen were able to join us for dinner. it's probably just as well because i'm sure carlos would rather hang out with company other than just myself. instead of going to the hancock tavern, we decided to go to coop's located in quincy. i probably should clarify that. hot amy decided to go to coop's located in quincy. coop's should probably come as no surprise to anyone who knows hot amy. after all, it is one of the few places that she likes to go to (predictable?).

too bad i suck at coop's. don't get me wrong. the food at coop's is good. i just fail to see the constant allure of the place, much like i fail to see the constant allure of the bar formerly known as sarsfields in quincy. but that is just my opinion.

anyway, i had coop's cheese pizza for dinner. apparently, on mondays, tuesdays, and wednesdays from 5pm to 9pm, the 10" cheese pizza is two dollars. (here is where i inject the line "i want my two dollars" from one of the best movies from the 1980s... "better off dead".) for two dollars, why not try it? what a deal, especially considering the fact that i didn't have anything to drink with the meal other than water.

and with what has become commonplace when dining with karen and hot amy, i got to sample some of their meals too. so all in all, it was good. i even have lunch for tomorrow thanks to hot amy who thought her meatball sub smelled funny. for anyone curious, the meatball sub smelled like... a meatball sub. i think her nose must be stuffed up or something.

regardless, it was an interesting time. i sometimes wonder if carlos (and hot amy) think that karen and i are fairly odd. after all, we told carlos the story about how karen and i ended up together (because carlos asked). i always like to tell the story that in high school karen broke my heart and dumped me for my friend (garv), who happens to be quite the intellectual according to hot amy. karen, obviously, tells the story a different way.

among the other things that we talked about were my ex-girlfriend, who i loving refer to as the "scourge of evil"... hot amy's latin debating club... carlos's "d" in spanish (yes, carlos is fluent in spanish)... and whether or not hot amy and i were in the same class in college. oh... for anyone curious, carlos actually graduated the same year... from the same college... as my friend (andrea) and myself. the interesting thing is... none of us knew each other back then. small world.

another tidbit of information that i found interesting is that hot amy is having lunch tomorrow with my friend (dave), who i used to work with in town. (carlos will be at the lunch too.) the reason i find this funny is because hot amy is now hanging out with my old work friends. it is like... in order to defeat me, she must become me. or i suppose in a bizarro world she could simply be stalking me. personally, i can think of a lot more people who are more interesting to stalk. but i guess i should be flattered. (heck, i'm flattered that dave finds me attractive.)

anyway, i had a good time tonight. it was interesting to say the least...

I Suck At Coop's

yesterday, karen and i met a bunch of our friends for dinner. to no one's surprise, the restaurant that was selected for dinner was coop's in quincy. too bad i suck at coop's. i was not surprised by the selection of coop's, because the plan originated from my predictable friend (hot amy) who seemingly only likes coop's or blue-22 as places to eat.

i'm not exactly sure what it is about coop's that hot amy enjoys so much. perhaps it is the owner (who i refer to as mr. coop). don't get me wrong. i have nothing against coop's. the food is quite good. i had chicken broccoli and ziti (cue rachael ray's "yum-o" sound). coop's also had this delicious pumpkin dessert too that was made by the bartender... the dessert was very good. and apparently... as hot amy would like to have you believe, the drinks are very strong there.

anyway, hot amy contacted my friend (jen) who organized the rest of the plans for dinner, which involved inviting karen and myself.

it was good to hang out with my friends. it almost seemed like old times, reminding me of my ireland trip as everyone who was at coop's last night (jen, bill, hot amy, and andrea) were also in ireland with me and karen last november. it's amazing how time flies because i can't believe it has almost been a year since i went to ireland with all of them. ireland was a great time... and lately, that familiarity of seeing all of my friends felt nice again.

up until yesterday, i had not really hung out with andrea in some time... or hot amy for that matter. both have been a little preoccupied with other things and other people. so, it was nice to be able to see them and hang out at the same time.

for me, the absolute highlight of the night came courtesy of andrea. we had been discussing politics, which is always a bad idea when it comes to topics of conversation... because you never know how emotionally charged people can be when it comes to politics. in particular, we were talking about the upcoming questions to vote on. one of the questions this year happens to deal with the marijuana.

like the instigator that i am, i asked andrea if she ever smoked marijuana before (which is totally unrelated to the voting question, i know). i was certainly not ready for her answer. her answer... "i don't know." the answer struck me as funny, because for anyone who has been around marijuana... there is a pungent smell when it is smoked. so, i would normally imagine someone would know whether they have smoked it or not... unless of course, you are a politician. (for anyone curious, i have never smoked marijuana. my body is a temple... as evident from my round belly and the large amounts of food i consume...) needless to say, whether she has or not, i will probably joke around with andrea about that for some time.

the other funny highlight of the night was our discussion about cup sizes for women's undergarments. yes, it was a thrilling night... food, marijuana, and bra sizes.... what could be better? making the discussion interesting was the fact that mr. coop (the owner of coop's) walked in during our discussion of double d's. mr. coop must have thought we were crazy.

as it turns out, the largest bra size is a size j according to my friend (pam) who we had contacted via the cell phone. it was like one of those game show moments where you could "phone a friend" for the answer. pam is quite knowledgeable about women's intimate apparel because she is currently working in an intimate apparel store. so no... pam was not contacted because she had the largest biggest bra size of everyone we knew. that may be the case, but that was not why she was contacted. pam is not a size j.

interestingly enough, pam has become karen and hot amy's phone-a-friend for many things... a result of parochial schools... and no cable television. sad.

all in all, it was a fun time at coop's...

oh yes... jen recently had her hair cut, too... and it looked very good.

I Still Suck At Coop's

after the sisterhood of the traveling pants 2/tropic thunder movie, the plan for everyone was to meet up with my friend (hot amy). hot amy has been excited of late because her new beau was visiting for the week and she wanted everyone to meet him. as it turns out, my friends (pam and ed) were also coming up from bon jovi's home state of new jersey to meet the mystery man. (i probably should clarify that... pam and ed are not coming up from new jersey just to meet hot amy's new beau... they were coming back to visit family and incidentally had the opportunity to meet hot amy's new beau.)

as it turned out... the original plan of dinner with hot amy was not happening. instead, the plan became bowling with hot amy. so, karen, jen, kerry, bill and i ate at the fours in quincy beforehand... to which kerry recognized a former teacher and karen recognized a former neighbor. when we finished, all of us (except bill because he had to feed the dog) headed to the bowling alley known as o'lindy's in quincy. the only problem... hot amy, her new beau, and hot amy's bff (andrea) were not finished with their own dinner and would not be meeting us there for some time.

by the time they were to arrive at the bowling alley, there would not be enough time to actually meet the mystery man as o'lindy's closed fairly early... so bowling was not a viable option. so with dinner out... and bowling out... we went with plan c... coops. it should come as no surprise to anyone that coops was the final destination even though we were there last week, because hot amy is a big fan of the place. in fact, i was figuring that it was either going to be coop's, blue 22 or the former sarsfields which is now widely known as the clash of the ash.

lucky for me, i still suck at coop's. after a quick pitstop at frozen freddie's in quincy for some ice cream (for karen and kerry), all of us finally got to meet hot amy's new beau at coop's bar and grill. pam and ed arrived later, so they were also able to meet hot amy's new beau (andy).

anyway, it was interesting.

(pictured below is andrea's new tattoo from vegas.)

in general, i tend to be low key when meeting my friend's new significant others. after all, i don't want to immediately scare them away. i am guessing my single friends would probably not like it too well if i scared away any potential suitors. thus, i tend to listen and observe the person throughout the course of the night and then formulate my own thoughts afterwards... not that i would share them with anyone anyway because that never does any good whether my opinion is favorable or not.

besides, who would want to listen to my opinion anyway? if anyone wants to know whether a potential significant other is good or not, they should consult pam's dad. i hear he is a good judge of character... and i'm not just saying that because (according to pam's mom) i am his favorite... second to ed of course. to this day, i still have no idea as to why i am one of pam's dad's favorites... i am simply assuming it is because i exude awesomeness...

regardless, i hope things work out with hot amy and andy.

I Suck At Coop's

following our short excursion registering for baby products on saturday, i was surprised to find out that the evening plans for the night involved dinner with some of my friends (jen, bill, hot amy, and andrea). i'm always the last to know when it comes to plans.

needless to say, my favorite sister-in-law (janine) who was with us when we were registering for baby products, karen and myself joined my friends for dinner. we ended up at coop's bar and grill located in quincy (on 3a). now, i suck at coop's.

if i did not know any better, i would say that coop's is probably up there in terms of hot amy's favorite quincy hot spots (blue-22 and the former sarsfields being some of the other places).

(pictured below are bill and janine at coop's.)

anyway, the food at coop's was good. i had the bbq deluxe burger with sweet potato fries (cue rachael ray's "yum-o" sound). the drinks were okay too. i had a dr. mcgillicuddys jagerbomb which a lot of people thought tasted like peppermint pepto. (i don't think i've ever had pepto so i can't really confirm that claim.) in addition, i had some fruity drink called a flava full... both drinks were ok.

for anyone who knows me, they would know that i am not a big fan of rectangular tables because the people at the ends always miss out on the conversations at the other end of the table. and as it turned out... i was at the end of the table. (circular tables... definitely the way to go.) it was okay being at the end though, because i may have missed some ribbing for calling hot amy a "fringe oddball friend".

all in all, it was fun to hang out with everyone during dinner.
