I Suck At Glee

Tuesday turned out to be quite the day to be a couch potato for Karen, our baby daughter (Briana) and I. The highlight of the evening was the season premiere of Glee. Now I suck at Glee, but the show is just so silly and fun that it makes me laugh.

The silliness in the season premiere that had cracked me up was the storyline involving two of the Asian characters on the show. Apparently, the two Asian characters (Tina and Mike) became a couple over the summer at Asian camp. The concept of an Asian camp just cracked me up.

I'm actually probably one of the worst genetic Asians around, but does Asian camp really exist? I do not want to attend or anything. I was just curious if such a thing existed. The idea just made me chuckle. Is there a comparable White camp?

Anyway, the season premiere of the show was great. Speaking of premieres, this week was the premiere of two other shows that Karen and I were interested in as well. Those shows were: Hawaii Five-O and Castle.

Castle was entertaining as usual. And surprisingly, Hawaii Five-O was pretty good. I was a little hesitant about Hawaii Five-O because I thought the original series was pretty cheesy. But, to my surprise, the reboot of the show was pretty entertaining. And I suppose, how could the show not be entertaining when the villain in the first episode was none other than James Marsters of Buffy fame.

And truth be told, the only reason why I was so receptive to watching Hawaii Five-O this time around was because Daniel Dae Kim from Lost is in the show. That actually might have been Karen's excuse too, although she told me that her dad used to watch it when she was growing up.

Regardless, the new season of television has been pretty good so far. Karen and I spent a good chunk of Tuesday just watching television, with Glee's premiere, and the other two shows recorded on our DVR. That was something that we had not done in a long while: spending a bunch of time vegging out in front of the television together. It was nice.

And naturally, when Karen and Briana went to bed, I continued my movie addiction with watching The Unborn.

For anyone curious, the film is a horror flick about a woman who is tormented by a dybbuk. A dybbuk is from Jewish folklore. It is a spirit that possesses people. In the case of the movie, it's an evil spirit that wants to enter this world by using the woman's death as the gateway. Gary Oldman stars as the rabbi who helps the woman in her battle with the dybbuk.

The movie was okay. The film really was not that scary. In fact, it was somewhat predictable with the ending. Nevertheless, I had to watch it of course.

I Suck At Heat Wave

Last night, I finished reading a book. Yes, I too sometimes find it amazing that I can read. (Hooked on phonics worked for me!) The book that I finished reading was "Heat Wave" by Richard Castle. Now, I suck at Heat Wave.

The book is actually a tie-in with the ABC television series "Castle". In the television show, Richard Castle is a famous writer who gets to tag along with the NYPD so that he can do research for an upcoming book. It turns out that Castle and the mayor of New York are close. Hence, that is why Castle is allowed to tag along with NYPD homicide.

Anyway, in the course of the show, Castle writes the book "Heat Wave" which is modeled after the detective he has been shadowing and the Police precinct that she works at. And lo' and behold... the marketing geniuses of ABC decided to actually release a book titled "Heat Wave" by Richard Castle. (And in rather comical fashion, there is a picture of Nathan Fillion, who plays Richard Castle on the television show, on the back cover as the author.)

Needless to say, the book was very enjoyable. The book was a rather quick read as well. Without giving away any of the details, the book is basically another episode of the television show, just with different names for the characters. There are, of course, some other plot differences. But all in all, it was a good book.

Sadly, the only downside of reading the book was that when I had finished, I discovered that my computer had died. My computer is currently suffering from a hardware malfunction, which is never good. The hardware malfunction is apparently causing a memory parity error. So, it is quite possible that I will either need new RAM, or a new computer. Either way, it's annoying. (It's also annoying that everything seems to break at the same time. First the treadmill. Now the computer. What's next? I probably should not have asked... in the event that I find out the answer to that question...)

I Suck At Castle

On Thursday, Karen and I got caught up on one of ABC's new television series: Castle. Now I suck at Castle.

For anyone curious, the show stars Nathan Fillion (of Firefly and Dr. Horrible fame) as Castle, a crime novelist who works with the New York police department to solve homicide cases with a detective who is the basis for one of his characters.

The show is rather quirky and reminds me a little bit of Murder She Wrote for the next generation. Karen and I accidentally stumbled upon the season premier as Karen was watching Dancing With The Stars on Monday night. While Karen was watching the show, I was tinkering with our garage door opener.

Done working on the home improvement project for the night, I caught the tail end of Dancing With The Stars. After the show, Castle aired and both Karen and I were sucked in. Although we did not watch much of that particular Castle episode, we knew we wanted to catch up on the series.

Luckily, the past episodes were available on demand. Thankfully, there were only three episodes to catch up on. So Karen and I were able to catch up quickly and easily. Having caught up on the past three episodes, we then watched the episode that aired on Monday.

So as of Thursday night, we are caught up on ABC's new series: Castle. Hopefully the rest of the season will be good.
