I Suck At Fixing The Toilet

On Monday morning, Karen woke me up to tell me that she thought the toilet was leaking. Sure enough, there did seem to be water coming from beneath the toilet bowl. Too bad I suck at fixing the toilet.

Well, truth be told, I hate fixing toilets. It's not that I can't fix them. I just find plumbing in general to be dirty. And of course, when you're dealing with an instrument of human waste disposal, the thought of plumbing only becomes dirtier.

Anyway, fixing the toilet was not that bad. As the water was coming from beneath the toilet bowl, I figured the issue was that the wax ring needed replacing. So off to Home Depot I went to get the wax ring (with flange).

As a result, I turned off the water to the toilet, removed it from its current location, and scraped off the old wax ring that was on the flange. I hate removing the old wax ring. Visually, the wax ring is so not appealing. It's like a brown glob of wax. I don't even like touching it with gloves on. Perhaps I have texture issues.

When all was said and done, I reassembled the toilet on top of the new wax ring. So far, so good. After a few flushes there is no more leaks. Yay. Sadly, the toilet was the highlight of my day.
