I Suck At The Stepfather

After having such a productive day on Thursday, I decided to take it easy on Friday.

During the day, I decided to watch a movie (again) while my baby daughter (Briana) was napping. That movie: The Stepfather.

(The video below is a trailer for The Stepfather.)

Now I suck at The Stepfather. Having seen the original movie from 1987, I figured I had to watch the 2009 remake. For anyone curious, The Stepfather horror movie from 1987 actually spawned two sequels. And if you are extra curious, the original Stepfather from the original movie is none other than Terry O'Quinn (Locke of Lost fame).

I might have watched the two sequels to the Stepfather. I can't remember because it was a long time ago... and neither sequel was too memorable. Most likely, the movies were terrible and I was just watching them to complete the series.

Anyway, the remake film from 2009 stars Dylan Walsh (of Nip/Tuck fame) as the Stepfather, with Sela Ward and Penn Badgley (of Gossip Girl fame... but I since I don't watch the show I remember him from John Tucker Must Die) as the mother and son who end up with the possible stepfather.

The basic plot is simple: a serial killer has a Modus operandi of schmoozing with single parenting mothers in hopes of becoming a stepfather to the family... only to kill the family later on. Sure, in real life it would probably take a single parenting mother more than several months to decide to remarry, but this is the movies.

Needless to say, the would-be family catches on to the stepfather's intentions and attempt to thwart his plans. Having seen the original Stepfather movie, I was not expecting too much from this remake.

Interestingly enough, I found the movie entertaining... probably for Amber Heard, who happens to be blond of course. All in all, it was an okay movie. It passed the time while Briana was napping.
