I Suck At Zumba

i suck at zumba. if it weren't for my friends (jen and hot amy) who are taking a zumba class, i probably wouldn't even know what it is.

according to my friend wikipedia,

"Zumba is a fitness program inspired by Latin dance. It was founded by Miami-based dancer and choreographer Alberto 'Beto' Perez, who teamed up with two local entrepreneurs: Alberto Perlman and Alberto Aghion. Zumba combines Latin rhythms with cardiovascular exercise to create an aerobic routine that is fun and easy to follow. The name Zumba is derived from a Colombian word meaning to move fast and have fun...

Inspired by Latin dance and music, Zumba uses a variety of styles in its routines, including cumbia, merengue, salsa, reggaeton, mambo, rumba, flamenco, and calypso. Music selections include both fast and slow rhythms to help tone and sculpt the body."

tonight, i got to watch a zumba class firsthand at the ymca. karen had a meeting at the ymca, so i worked a little late and picked her up afterwards. when i arrived, karen asked if i wanted to stop in and say hi to jen and hot amy who were taking the class. needless to say, i couldn't resist. (the video below was taken through the door during the zumba class. jen, who is in the back next to the only guy in the class, is the one with the rhythym. sadly, hot amy is still rhythmatically challenged. go grease lightning go!)

  1. No offense to anybody who takes Zumba, but how exactly is "Grease Lightning" inspired by Latin dance and music???

  2. Yeah that song isn't, it was actually a substitute teacher this week, most of the dances have salsa, flamenco, meringue etc. It was a really good work out this week.
