I Suck At Making Ginger Tea

karen has been pretty sick the past couple of days. there seems to be a bug going around. i guess the symptoms are a scratchy throat, followed by stuffiness, and then followed by achiness. karen seems better today. she's actually up and about now... albeit she is still stuffy. (a couple of days ago, she was unable to get out of bed, so this is an improvement).

anyway, my mom experienced the same thing a couple of weeks ago. when my mom heard that karen had the same bug, she mentioned her remedy to me... ginger tea. apparently, both my parents swear by the healing benefits of ginger tea. usually, when my parents tell me about the healing benefits of a lot of chinese remedies, i tend to tune them out. i usually think of that childhood commercial where the lady says "ancient chinese secret!". okay, so maybe i should actually listen to my parents because there must be some truth in eastern medicine, right?

in my moment of guilt, i humored my parents and agreed that i'd attempt to make ginger tea for karen. when they heard that i'd give it a shot, my mom and dad both got really excited, probably because i was actually showing some interest this time in listening to them.

as it turns out, i probably should have listened to them a little harder because i suck at making ginger tea. i made what i thought was ginger tea for karen. it turned out to be a little too gingery. karen almost gagged when she drank a sip of the concoction i made. in my defense, my parents didn't really give me a recipe to make ginger tea. the instructions were basically: add this piece of ginger to a bowl, add some water, add some honey. definitive quantities are a rare thing when it comes to making food at my parents' household.

anyway, i added some more honey to mask the taste of the ginger. i hope karen liked the blend. speaking of which, i should check to make sure i didn't poison her with my ginger tea.
