I Suck At High Intensity Interval Training

today, i began the 8-week high intensity interval training.

the workout for today was a four minute workout, switching from jogging to sprinting every 30 seconds until four minutes was completed.

oh my god, the workout is awful. let's just say, i suck at high intensity interval training. now, i know i'm not in any kind of shape whatsoever. i do, however, consider myself to be in better shape than most of my friends. apparently, i was in for a rude awakening.

i managed to convince karen to do the workout with me. she has a stopwatch on her watch, whereas i have to resort to mentally counting to 30 in my head. (the battery in my nike watch died, so i currently do not have a stopwatch.) anyway, we warmed up at the high school track. (we used the hanover high school track as it was on the way to the supermarket.)

everything began pretty smoothly. karen and i jogged for 30 seconds... no problem. it was the next 3 minutes 30 seconds that was the problem. i was out of gas after the first minute as the sprint portion seemed to last forever. now imagine having to repeat it three more times.

needless to say, i was basically crawling by the end of the workout. keeled over, i was sucking wind trying to recuperate. i could barely run, let alone walk. i kept breathing heavily for a good chunk of time afterwards. karen did not fare much better either.

as i was hunched over, i thought... what have i gotten myself into with andrea?

now that i have feeling back in my lungs, i can't wait for the next workout.
